The role requires maintaining accurate patient records and adhering to health and safety regulations to provide a safe environment for both patients and staff. The Certified Dental Assistant also educates patients on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care to promote overall dental health. Ultimately, this position contributes significantly to the smooth operation of the dental office and the positive experience of patients.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited dental assisting program.
Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Ability to legally work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with dental practice management software.
Additional certifications such as Radiography certification or Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) designation.
Strong communication skills in both English and French.
Continuing education in dental assisting or related fields.

Responsibilities:

Prepare treatment rooms and ensure all dental instruments and materials are sterilized and organized before procedures.
Assist dentists during various dental procedures by handing instruments, operating suction devices, and providing patient comfort.
Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) as required, following safety protocols.
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment notes and medical histories.
Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques and post-operative care instructions.
Manage inventory of dental supplies and notify management when reordering is necessary.
Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and workplace safety standards.

Skills:

The Certified Dental Assistant utilizes technical skills daily to prepare and maintain dental instruments and equipment, ensuring all tools meet sterilization standards to prevent infection. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effectively communicating with patients, providing reassurance, and delivering oral health education. Organizational skills are applied in managing patient records, scheduling, and inventory control to maintain efficient office operations. The assistant uses critical thinking and attention to detail when assisting dentists during procedures, anticipating needs, and ensuring patient safety. Additionally, proficiency with dental software and radiography equipment enhances the ability to support clinical and administrative tasks seamlessly.
