Original job description

Archived listing. The details below describe a past opening.

As a Lead Graphic Artist at Cloud Chamber, you will join our talented development team to help shape our project's visual identity, including in-game environmental branding, UI, iconography, and studio-wide identity. In this role, you’ll collaborate with a passionate group of game developers to craft high-fidelity 2D artwork, UI elements, and diegetic in-world branding that supports an immersive user experience and seamless visual consistency, ultimately bringing the richly imagined world of BioShock to life.

Please note, this is a management role. At Cloud Chamber, a manager’s primary responsibility is to drive their team’s success - setting clear task priorities, providing coaching and resources, and keeping project deliverables aligned with milestones to foster an empowered, high-performing team.

What You’ll Do:

Lead and grow a talented group of 2D graphic and UI artists, managing daily tasking and priorities, setting clear performance targets, providing regular constructive feedback, and fostering professional growth.
Partner with the Art Director and Art/Design Leads to establish the 2D art style by creating mood boards, style guides, and diegetic in-world branding (e.g., environmental signage, iconography, and logos) that enrich the game world.
Oversee visual quality across in-house and external co-development teams - providing hands-on feedback and paint-overs to guide daily execution, while reviewing and approving all graphic assets to maintain an exceptional visual standard.
Develop, refine, and execute high-fidelity 2D artwork, iconography, typography, and graphic assets while enforcing strict technical specifications, performance budgets, and Unreal Engine optimization guidelines.
Partner closely with Game Designers, Engineers, and UI/UX specialists to ensure graphic assets integrate seamlessly into gameplay systems while adhering to accessibility standards and localization requirements to deliver an intuitive user experience.
Maintain an organized, efficient workflow across distributed teams, ensuring milestone deliverables are met on time and with high attention to detail.
Stay current with evolving industry trends, visual tools, and technique innovations to continuously refine pipelines and upskill your team.

What We’ll Do Together:

At Cloud Chamber, we are champions of high standards, pushing for progress and embracing change. We will work closely and constructively across design, art, engineering, animation, and audio teams to realize our creative ambitions. Together, we will stay current on technological advancements and identify solutions to overcome developmental obstacles to deliver a world-class AAA experience.

Skills & Experiences:

7+ years of graphic design, UI, or 2D art experience within the video game industry, with proven experience leading artists across branding, UI, concept, or marketing.
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Illustration, Fine Art, or equivalent practical experience.
Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) and standard UI design tools (Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch).
Hands-on experience implementing UI/UX or graphic assets inside Unreal Engine.
Exceptional mastery of layout, visual hierarchy, typography, user-centered design principles, and adaptive layouts.
Outstanding communication skills with a proven track record of empathetic mentorship and constructive feedback.
A high-caliber portfolio demonstrating strong graphic design, branding, and visual storytelling in shipped games or high-profile entertainment projects.

Who You Are:

A proven leader with excellent management and mentoring skills and a track record of successfully guiding high-functioning teams.
A reliable, positive force multiplier, actively seeking opportunities to integrate work across disciplines and contribute to a healthy, supportive team environment.
A solid communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly, package information for diverse audiences, and deliver difficult feedback with empathy and professionalism.
Experienced in working in cross-disciplinary teams with strong communication skills.
Persistent and self-motivated with a proactive mindset.
Able to maintain effectiveness and quality under pressure, ambiguity, and fast-changing priorities.
An active listener able to build and maintain trust-based relationships across all levels of the organization, understand differing perspectives, and navigate organizational complexity with tact and emotional intelligence.
Highly open to feedback and direction, possessing a desire to learn new skills, and capable of producing quick, quality revisions based on new insights or constraints.
Demonstrates strong ownership of tasks, striving to drive work forward autonomously while maintaining a critical eye for detail and organization, ensuring high standards of quality.
Dedicated to upholding Cloud Chamber's core values, contributing to a positive and respectful company culture while striving for excellence in all endeavors.

Who We Are:

At Cloud Chamber we strive to make BioShock games that move people: evocative, immersive, and meaningful experiences that stay with you long after you’ve rolled credits. Great games are born from great collaborations, supported by a culture that brings out the best in our teams. We work openly, learn through play, take ownership, push ourselves to be better, and deliver for our players.

For candidates located in Quebec:
This position requires professional proficiency in both French and English. Proficiency in English is required to collaborate with our U.S. teams and international partners, as well as to handle specialized technical documentation (reading, writing, and communication).

As an equal opportunity employer, we are committed to ensuring that qualified individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, perform their essential job functions, and receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please contact us if you need reasonable accommodation.
