Monday-Thursday | 5:00 p.m.-3:30 a.m.
Our client is a well-established manufacturer serving various commercial markets. They are currently seeking an experienced Manufacturing Shift Supervisor to lead their afternoon welding and manufacturing operation in North Huron.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on manufacturing leader who is comfortable independently overseeing a production facility during the afternoon shift. The Supervisor will lead approximately 10-20 employees, including welders, machine operators and material handlers, and will be the senior leader onsite for most of the shift.
The role is approximately 65% people leadership, 30% production planning and 5% hands-on production support. The successful candidate does not need to be a welder but must understand manufacturing processes and either have experience working with welding operations or directly supervising welders.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Lead, coach and supervise a team of approximately 10-20 production employees across welding, machine operation and material handling.
- Coordinate daily production activities, labour requirements and workflow to ensure schedules and customer commitments are achieved.
- Conduct shift handovers and communicate production priorities, operational issues and resource requirements.
- Monitor employee performance, attendance and productivity, providing coaching and constructive feedback where required.
- Support employee onboarding, training, cross-training and ongoing development.
- Address employee concerns and workplace conflicts in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain a safe, structured and productive manufacturing environment.
- Ensure required equipment, tooling, quality and safety inspections are completed.
- Identify production constraints and take appropriate action to minimize downtime and improve throughput.
- Monitor quality standards and respond to production or quality concerns.
- Coordinate with Quality, Maintenance, Shipping and other departments to keep production running effectively.
- Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate production records, metrics and operational reporting.
- Learn the manufacturing equipment and processes well enough to effectively manage the operation and troubleshoot issues with the appropriate team members.
- Approximately 5+ years of progressive manufacturing experience.
- Previous supervisory, team-lead or production leadership experience.
- Experience working with or supervising welders and machine operators.
- Candidates may come from a variety of manufacturing environments; direct steel fabrication experience is an asset but is not mandatory.
- Working knowledge of welding processes, standards and quality expectations.
- Strong leadership skills with a confident, supportive and team-oriented approach.
- Ability to independently make sound operational decisions during an afternoon/night shift.
- Experience managing production schedules, labour resources and workflow.
- Strong problem-solving, conflict-resolution and employee-management skills.
- Monday-Thursday, 5:00 p.m.-3:30 a.m.
- Fridays are generally off.
- The shift does not normally change seasonally.
