Overview
4FMV is recruiting on behalf of our client, a Montreal-based innovation lab, for a Senior Embedded Systems Electronics Engineer. The lab develops and commercializes new products, solutions and intellectual property across MedTech, advanced manufacturing and robotics.
The core of this role is range: our client needs an engineer who can own electronics design across the full spectrum, from early prototype (QRL 1-5) through to boards that are ready to ship at scale. Most engineers specialize in one or the other. We are looking for someone who is genuinely comfortable with both, and who has handed off designs for moderate-to-high-volume production.
You will work on innovation-driven projects alongside a multidisciplinary team, not routine production engineering.
What You'll Do
- Own electronics design across the full lifecycle: ideation, prototyping, validation and design-for-manufacturing, producing boards ready to hand off for volume production.
- Design, simulate and test analog and digital circuits, including EMI/EMC considerations.
- Lead embedded engineering projects in close collaboration with systems and embedded software engineers.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team on HMI/haptics, industrial, sensing and MedTech projects, with an emphasis on modularity and scalability.
- Diagnose and resolve issues across hardware, firmware and system integration; run rigorous testing and validation for functionality, safety and reliability.
- Communicate your designs and technical decisions clearly and concisely. This role is not primarily client-facing.
- Contribute to IP development by documenting novel solutions and ideas.
- Plan and execute your own project work, manage timelines and report progress.
- Prepare technical documentation and support materials for internal use and occasional client use.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or a related field.
- 7+ years of hands-on embedded hardware development, spanning both prototype design and production. You have taken boards from concept to shippable at moderate-to-high volume, including the design-for-manufacturing decisions that make that possible.
- Strong PCB design skills in Altium and/or Eagle.
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
- Experience across multiple embedded platforms, including FPGA, RF and peripherals, with STM and Nordic microcontroller families.
- Solid grounding in control systems, signal acquisition and data processing.
