Field Service Technician, Electrical & Software Systems (FS2609)

Location: Toronto, ON

About The Position

We are looking for a hands-on Field Service Technician with strong electrical and software troubleshooting skills to help deploy, maintain, and support ALTA systems.

You will complement our team's mechanical and mechatronics expertise with the ability to investigate electrical faults, interpret diagnostic logs, troubleshoot device communications, and understand how software and hardware interact.

Able Innovations is a small, dynamic startup where initiative, sound judgment, and ownership matter. You will work directly with customers and engineering, solve problems in hospital environments, and help build the service procedures and capabilities needed to support a growing fleet.

This role is 100% in office.

Responsibilities

Field Service & Operations: Install, inspect, maintain, and repair ALTA systems at customer sites.
Electrical & Software Diagnostics: Diagnose electrical, electronic, and software-related faults involving power systems, wiring, sensors, motor controllers, and device communications.
Testing & Verification: Use diagnostic tools, system logs, and structured testing to isolate faults and verify repairs.
System Maintenance: Perform approved firmware updates, configuration changes, calibrations, and functional testing.
Hardware Servicing: Complete mechanical adjustments and component replacements as part of servicing the full system.
Customer Support: Provide remote troubleshooting and on-site support, keeping customers informed of progress and next steps.
Engineering Collaboration: Work with engineering to reproduce issues, capture diagnostic evidence, and validate corrective actions.
Documentation & Process Improvement: Maintain accurate service records (findings, work performed, parts replaced, test results) and continuously improve troubleshooting guides, service procedures, and technician training materials.
Safety & Compliance: Follow approved safety and service procedures and complete required verification before returning equipment to use.

Required Skills

Electromechanical Service: Practical experience troubleshooting and servicing complex electromechanical equipment.
Electrical Fundamentals: Strong electrical and electronics fundamentals, including reading schematics and tracing wiring and signals.
Diagnostic Tools: Proficiency using multimeters and other electrical diagnostic tools.
Software Troubleshooting: Experience using software tools to investigate faults, review logs, or configure equipment.
Firmware & Networking: Familiarity with firmware updates, basic networking, and device communication interfaces.
Hands-on Mechanical Skills: Comfortable performing hands-on mechanical work, including disassembly, adjustment, and component replacement.
Methodical Problem Solving: A structured approach to troubleshooting accompanied by clear documentation of findings.
Client Communication: Strong communication skills and professionalism when interacting with healthcare clients and partners.
Autonomy: Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and recognize when engineering support is required.
Travel: Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites across Canada and the United States.
Education & Background: Relevant technical education or equivalent practical experience in electronics, electrical engineering technology, mechatronics, robotics, or a related field.

Bonus Skills

Software & Scripting: Linux command-line experience and Python, Bash, or similar scripting for diagnostics and automation.
Embedded Systems: Familiarity with CAN bus, serial communications, and embedded control systems.
Advanced Equipment: Experience with oscilloscopes, motor drives, encoders, and feedback sensors.
Domain Experience: Experience servicing medical devices or working in hospital environments.
Remote Fleet Tools: Familiarity with remote diagnostics, telemetry, or fleet monitoring tools.
Demonstrated Passion: Practical projects demonstrating an active interest in robotics, electronics, or engineering beyond coursework.

Qualifications:

Relevant technical education or equivalent practical experience in electronics, electrical engineering technology, mechatronics, robotics, or a related field.
3–6 years of relevant industry experience in Field service, electronics, robotics, automation, or related electromechanical systems
