Our SE Calgary client is a growing financial services organization with operations across Canada and the United States. With multiple business entities and a fast-moving environment, the organization is continuing to build scalable financial processes, strengthen reporting capabilities, and support its next stage of growth.

The culture is entrepreneurial, collaborative, and solutions-focused. This is an environment where priorities can evolve quickly, and leaders are expected to be hands-on, adaptable, and comfortable working across departments. Strong communication and the ability to build effective relationships with senior leadership and cross-functional teams are highly valued.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Vice President, Finance will lead the accounting function across multiple Canadian and United States (US) entities. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for financial reporting, consolidation, accounting operations, internal controls, compliance, and process improvement. The successful candidate will bring both technical accounting expertise and strong business acumen, with the ability to translate financial information into meaningful insights for senior leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The key job functions are:

Lead the accounting function across multiple legal entities and currencies, ensuring accurate, timely, and consistent financial information.
Manage and mentor accounting professionals across general accounting, reconciliations, and other core finance functions.
Oversee monthly and year-end financial close processes, financial reporting, and multi-entity consolidation.
Review financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), validate financial information, and provide analysis to support business decisions.
Develop financial models and revenue or costing scenarios as required to support strategic planning.
Oversee Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), General Ledger (GL), and bank and merchant reconciliations across multiple entities.
Maintain consistent accounting policies, procedures, and chart of accounts across the organization.
Partner with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on cash flow management, treasury reporting, and banking relationships.
Design, document, and maintain effective internal controls appropriate for a multi-entity organization operating across jurisdictions.
Serve as the primary finance contact for external auditors and coordinate annual audit and review engagements.
Support financial, regulatory, and compliance reporting requirements across the organization's operating jurisdictions.
Lead the optimization of accounting systems, integrations, automation, and financial processes.
Establish scalable month-end close and reporting processes to support continued organizational growth.
Partner with internal technology and development teams on finance-related systems, reporting tools, and process improvements.
Act as a trusted financial advisor to senior leadership and department leaders, providing analysis and insight to support operational and strategic decision-making.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline is required.
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing is required.

Qualifications:

Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, including Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and/or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working hands-on with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or accounting systems.
Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
Experience working within a multi-entity environment with multiple currencies is highly preferred.
Cross-border accounting experience involving Canada and the United States (US) is considered a strong asset.

Experience:

Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience with increasing responsibility.
Minimum 3 years of experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Vice President, Finance Director, or senior accounting leadership role.
Experience leading accounting teams while remaining comfortable maintaining a hands-on approach to financial operations.
Experience within financial services, payments, fintech, or another regulated industry is considered a strong asset.
Experience supporting United States (US) accounting, reporting, or federal and state filing requirements is preferred.
Experience implementing or improving accounting systems, automation, reporting processes, or financial controls is highly desirable.

Skills:

Leadership: Confident financial leader who can provide direction to accounting teams while remaining hands-on when required.
Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to interpret complex financial information, identify trends, and develop practical recommendations.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly present financial information to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
Organization: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple entities, priorities, reporting cycles, and deadlines simultaneously.
Problem-Solving: Resourceful and solutions-oriented, with the ability to navigate evolving priorities and complex financial matters.
Business Acumen: Ability to connect financial performance with broader operational and strategic objectives.
Adaptability: Comfortable working in a growing environment where processes and priorities continue to evolve.
Relationship Building: Collaborative approach with the ability to establish credibility and strong working relationships across the organization.

Base Salary: $180,000- 210,000+ per year

Salary is based on experience and qualifications.
Comprehensive compensation and benefits package.
Opportunity to play a key leadership role in a growing organization with a broad, multi-entity financial mandate.
