Job Title: Construction Manager
Job Description
The Construction Manager is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient execution of a large-scale construction scope on a first-of-its-kind, $1B mega project. Reporting to the Project Manager, this role oversees contractor performance, safety, schedule, quality, risk, and turnover activities, ensuring delivery and acceptance of the facility before handover and Ready for Service. The position offers exposure to sophisticated construction practices, executive-level project visibility, and the opportunity to influence project execution from mobilization through commissioning and start-up, with long-term stability across multiple project phases.
Responsibilities
- Lead the safe, timely, and efficient execution of the assigned construction scope, ensuring delivery and acceptance to the end user prior to handover and Ready for Service.
- Ensure onsite environmental, health and safety (EH&S) plans and programs for all direct field labour and site contractors are fully implemented and consistently followed.
- Promote a strong EH&S culture across the Construction Management Team, contract service providers, and construction contractors by participating in contractor EH&S sessions, recognizing successes, and celebrating achievements.
- Provide weekly construction status reports to sr. project leadership, including the VP of Construction, Project Director, and Project Manager.
- Ensure strict adherence to Management of Change processes throughout the project lifecycle and confirm contractors understand the process requirements and consequences.
- Ensure all site construction contractors and their sub-contractors actively and effectively manage their scopes of work, including quality management, close-out, and reporting requirements in accordance with their contracts.
- Confirm site construction contractors receive their Engineering Work Packages, equipment, materials, and necessary support in a timely manner as specified in their contracts and aligned with the project schedule.
- Oversee each site contractors planning, mobilization, construction execution, construction management, reporting, and invoicing activities in accordance with contract provisions, intervening through formal contract administration processes when execution varies from plan in an unacceptable manner.
- Ensure the site security plan is understood and followed by all construction personnel and contractors.
- Establish and maintain turnover management processes that support Engineer of Record acceptance and execution of the facility.
- Lead and coordinate walkdowns of completed systems and sub-systems with the Construction Management Team and contractors, ensuring deficiencies are identified, documented, and prioritized for remediation.
- Drive the clearance of construction walkdown deficiencies on a priority basis so that systems are ready for Mechanical Completion and Turnover in alignment with the Commissioning and Start-up schedule.
- Interface with home office engineering and Field Engineering groups to ensure construction contractors are supported with Engineering Work Packages, Design Change Notice updates, engineering clarifications, and field mark-ups or redlines for minor field clarifications and design compatibility.
- Support the Engineer of Record with the information and documentation needed to verify facility design and quality compliance, enabling confident approval of Construction Completion.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies to provide all required information and supporting documentation to facilitate approvals related to facility construction compliance.
- Ensure contract planning, scheduling, progress measurement, change management, cost control, and risk management are carried out effectively, and provide key performance measures to the Project Management Team on a weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly basis as defined by the reporting plan.
- Identify and regularly assess construction execution risks and opportunities, implement mitigation strategies where possible, and develop and manage contingency plans for risks that cannot be fully mitigated.
- Interface with home office Document Control to ensure timely transmission and receipt of contract notifications, Engineering Work Packages, Design Change Notices, correspondence, engineering drawings, specifications, procedural updates, and related documentation to and from construction contractors.
- Collaborate with the Operations Management group to ensure construction resources and support are provided by the Construction Management Team and contractors to enable Commissioning and Start-up operations to complete commissioning and start-up of the facility on schedule.
- Capture, document, and communicate Lessons Learned from construction execution, pre-commissioning, and start-up activities for application on future projects.
- Lead and manage multidisciplinary site teams on a complex, large-scale project environment, ensuring alignment across civil, electrical, and other technical scopes.
- Oversee contractor performance on high-value projects, including monitoring of safety, schedule adherence, quality standards, risk management, and turnover activities from mobilization through commissioning and handover.
Essential Skills
- At least 15 years of experience in construction management and construction oversight on complex industrial or infrastructure projects.
- Proven track record managing major construction projects valued at $200M or more.
- Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary site teams across civil, electrical, and other technical disciplines.
- Strong experience in construction within sectors such as oil and gas, wind, battery energy storage systems, nuclear, hydroelectric, data centres, and utilities.
- Deep understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE/EH&S) requirements, with a strong focus on construction safety and culture.
- Hands-on experience overseeing civil and electrical scopes on site, including coordination of contractors and technical interfaces.
- Experience working with general contractors and managing construction oversight in complex, multi-contractor environments.
- Ability to manage and administer change orders and Management of Change processes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Proficiency in construction planning, scheduling, progress measurement, change management, cost control, and risk management.
- Experience working with Engineering Work Packages, Design Change Notices, Requests for Information, and field mark-ups or redlines.
- Strong capability to interface with Engineers of Record, operations teams, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and successful project delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to manage turnover, mechanical completion, and commissioning readiness activities on large-scale projects.
- Excellent communication skills for reporting to executive-level stakeholders and coordinating across home office and field teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 20 or more years of construction experience, particularly in leadership roles on large, complex projects.
- Electrical-focused experience or strong electrical construction expertise.
- Experience in hyperscale data centre construction or mega project construction environments.
- History of managing construction on projects valued at $500M or more.
- Experience managing 500 or more site personnel across multiple contractors and disciplines.
- Familiarity with high-value, fast-paced project environments that involve sophisticated construction practices and advanced technologies.
- Local knowledge of the project area and ability to build strong relationships with local stakeholders and contractors.
Work Environment
The Construction Manager works on a large, first-of-its-kind mega project entering full construction, operating within a fast-paced, complex environment similar to hyperscale developments. The role is site-based, reporting to the Project Manager and collaborating closely with home office engineering, Field Engineering, Operations Management, Document Control, and a wide range of construction contractors. The work involves overseeing multidisciplinary civil and electrical scopes, managing high-value contracts, and coordinating activities across oil and gas, wind, battery energy storage, nuclear, hydroelectric, data centre, and utilities-style construction. The environment emphasizes a strong health, safety, and environmental culture, rigorous adherence to Management of Change and security plans, and structured reporting to executive-level project leadership. With Phase 1 extending through 2027 and additional phases planned, the position offers long-term project continuity, exposure to sophisticated construction practices, and involvement from EPC mobilization through commissioning, start-up, and final handover.

Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100.00 - $110.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
