  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to document current-state designs in CAD and ensure they accurately reflect production realities.
  • Coordinate with engineering and operations to identify and implement design optimizations that improve cost, performance, and ease of assembly.
  • Lead updates to structured bills of materials (BOMs), ensuring all electrical components are correctly specified, version controlled, and aligned with design intent.
  • Review vendor specifications and integrate supplier models into assemblies in accordance with project requirements and standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in the design process, including template creation, CAD library consolidation, and standardization of design practices.
  • Conduct quality reviews of CAD deliverables to ensure compliance with engineering standards and design best practices.
  • Perform other related design and documentation duties as assigned to support product development and manufacturing.

Essential Skills

  • Diploma in Electrical Design, Drafting, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Proficiency with 3D modeling software, preferably SolidWorks, for creating and managing detailed models and assemblies.
  • Experience in electrical cabling design and schematic development, preferably using SolidWorks Electrical and/or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Strong understanding of electrical drafting and design principles for manufacturing and complex system manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, and ISO/IEC standards relevant to electrical design and industrial control systems.
  • Familiarity with the design and manufacture of Industrial Control Panels (ICP).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple design assignments and deliverables simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews of CAD work against established engineering standards and best practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience using AutoCAD Electrical for electrical drafting and panel design.
  • Experience working in manufacturing environments, particularly with complex system manufacturing.
  • Exposure to data center products or similar large-scale electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, operations, and manufacturing teams.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with experience creating templates, consolidating CAD libraries, or standardizing design processes.

Work Environment

This role is based onsite at a data center-focused manufacturing plant in Calgary, providing close collaboration with engineering, operations, and manufacturing teams. You will work extensively with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks and electrical design platforms such as SolidWorks Electrical and AutoCAD Electrical to support the design and manufacture of electrical panels, industrial control systems, and related assemblies. The environment centers on complex system manufacturing, where designs move from prototype to validation and into full production. Work is primarily performed in an office and design area within an industrial facility, with regular interaction on the shop floor to review designs, document current-state builds, and support manufacturability. Standard business hours are typical, with occasional flexibility required to meet project deadlines and support production needs. Dress is generally business casual suitable for an engineering and manufacturing setting, with appropriate safety attire required when working in production areas.
