Job Title: Project Manager Aerospace EngineeringJob Description
This role leads complex aerospace engineering projects from initiation through completion, ensuring that scope, schedule, and deliverables align with customer requirements and organizational objectives. The Project Manager develops and maintains detailed project plans, coordinates cross-functional engineering teams, manages risks and changes, and serves as a primary interface with customers and key stakeholders. This position offers significant ownership over project outcomes, combining technical understanding, leadership, and customer interaction within a highly technical aerospace environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain detailed project plans and schedules using project management software such as Microsoft Project.
- Coordinate project activities, resources, and information to ensure smooth execution and adherence to project timelines.
- Prepare and manage comprehensive project documentation, including status reports, risk assessments, change requests, and other project records.
- Facilitate clear and timely communication among project team members, internal stakeholders, and external partners to ensure alignment and prompt issue resolution.
- Monitor project progress throughout the entire project life cycle, identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation strategies to keep projects on track.
- Support quotations and proposals by contributing to work breakdown structures (WBS) and related planning documentation.
- Manage project scope and deliverables from kickoff through completion, ensuring outcomes meet agreed-upon customer requirements, timelines, and project objectives.
- Track project deliverables closely, identify scope changes or gaps, and ensure all changes are properly documented, communicated, and managed with customers and internal engineering teams.
- Prevent and manage scope creep by clearly defining responsibilities, documenting changes, and keeping engineering and project teams aligned with the agreed scope.
- Act as a primary interface with customers and key stakeholders, building strong working relationships and maintaining transparency on project status, risks, and issues.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams involved in aircraft modifications, engineering design, certification, airworthiness, and testing to ensure integrated project delivery.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time and within agreed budgets while maintaining quality and compliance with applicable aerospace standards and certifications.
Essential Skills
- Engineering background in any discipline, providing a solid technical foundation for managing aerospace projects.
- 58 years of project management experience within the aerospace industry.
- Extensive experience working directly with customers and key stakeholders in a technical project environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey project status, risks, issues, and expectations to diverse audiences.
- Proven experience managing project scope and deliverables from kickoff through completion, ensuring alignment with customer requirements, timelines, and project objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to track project deliverables, identify scope changes or gaps, and manage changes effectively with customers and internal engineering teams.
- Ability to prevent and manage scope creep by clearly defining responsibilities, documenting changes, and maintaining alignment across engineering and project teams.
- Experience with project management tools, including Microsoft Project, for planning and scheduling.
- CGD and Secret Level 2 clearance or eligibility for these security designations.
- background or experience in aerospace projects, including familiarity with aerospace deliverables, scope management, and client interface.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- PMP certification or progress toward PMP is an asset.
- Experience working with Transport Canada on aerospace projects.
- Experience with Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) processes or STC certification activities.
- Experience in engineering, aerospace, manufacturing, or technical project management environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively on technically complex, customized engineering solutions.
- Comfort working across the full project lifecycle, from planning and estimation through execution, monitoring, and closeout.
Work Environment
The role is based in a highly technical, collaborative, and project-driven aerospace engineering operation focused on aircraft modifications, engineering design, certification, airworthiness, and testing. The Project Manager works on-site in a full-time, permanent capacity and collaborates closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and other stakeholders to move complex aerospace programs from planning through execution and completion. The environment emphasizes innovation and customized engineering solutions, giving the Project Manager exposure to the full project lifecycle, including planning, scheduling, resource coordination, documentation control, risk and change management, and stakeholder communication. The position involves significant interaction with internal and external customers, providing strong visibility and exposure to senior engineering leadership. Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
