Job Title: Reliability & Maintainability Engineer

Job Description

This role focuses on evaluating and improving the reliability and maintainability of the Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) family of vehicles. You will assess systems, sub-systems, and components, perform detailed reliability analyses, and collaborate closely with design engineering teams to ensure that reliability and maintainability requirements are incorporated throughout the design lifecycle. The position combines analytical engineering work, data-driven decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assess system, sub-system, and component designs used or proposed for use on the LAV family of vehicles to ensure they meet defined reliability and maintainability requirements.
  • Perform Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) on proposed vehicle concept designs to identify potential failure modes and their impacts, and recommend design improvements.
  • Create reliability and functional block diagrams that accurately reflect proposed designs and perform quantitative analysis to evaluate system performance and risk.
  • Identify the optimum component repair policy by performing Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) and provide recommendations to balance cost, availability, and maintainability.
  • Work proactively with design engineering teams to raise reliability and maintainability issues early in the design phase and support the resolution of these issues.
  • Prepare clear, concise technical material and present findings, recommendations, and status updates at design reviews and logistics engineering assessment reviews.
  • Analyze test data and field failure data to support design trade-off decisions and provide input for improvements to fielded vehicle fleets.
  • Develop Residual Useful Life (RUL) models for LAV components based on physics-of-failure principles, in-service maintenance data, and automotive CAN bus information.
  • Interpret and apply information from electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics to support reliability and maintainability analyses.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that reliability, maintainability, and logistics considerations are integrated into overall vehicle lifecycle planning.

Essential Skills

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in reading engineering drawings, including electrical schematics, pneumatic schematics, and hydraulic schematics.
  • Hands-on experience with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Excellent written communication skills for preparing reports, presentations, and technical documentation.
  • Strong oral communication and presentation skills for effectively conveying technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data, evaluate design options, and develop evidence-based recommendations.
  • Negotiation skills to influence design decisions and advocate for reliability and maintainability requirements.
  • Ability to travel up to approximately 5% within Canada and 5% to the United States and internationally, and to obtain and maintain a valid passport.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience developing or applying Residual Useful Life (RUL) models based on physics-of-failure concepts and in-service maintenance data.
  • Exposure to automotive CAN bus data and its use in monitoring system health and predicting failures.
  • Experience working with complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems in an engineering environment.
  • Background in logistics engineering or supportability analysis, including Level of Repair Analysis (LORA).
  • Experience participating in or leading design reviews and logistics engineering assessment reviews.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional, engineering-focused teams.
