Original job description
Respite/Disability Worker - Community Specialist II (In-Home)
Meet AdaptAbilities. We provide meaningful programs for children and youth with disabilities. We have been named a 2025 Canadian Nonprofit Employer of Choice (NEOC) Award recipient - one of just 18 organizations across Canada to receive this national honour.
Why Work with Us?
What We Offer:
We strive to be an employer of choice by creating a positive and collaborative team environment.
You can look forward to:
We also offer perks including mentorship and support for professional development, and programs that support a balanced lifestyle.
What You Offer:
Ideally you have extensive experience supporting individuals with complex needs, including the use of effective de-escalation strategies and appropriate boundary setting. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training, or equivalent, is required. Experience developing or implementing Behaviour Support Plans is considered an asset. This is an immediate opportunity for an experienced and confident professional who is comfortable supporting individuals who may display behaviours that can create barriers to accessing or participating in community activities and services. The successful candidate will demonstrate patience, professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to build positive relationships while maintaining safety, dignity, and respect. We seek employees who align with our core values, which are: open to growth, live our purpose, cultivate teamwork, demonstrate extraordinary effort and act with integrity.
The Position:
This is a permanent full-time position within our In-Home Program, supporting an adult participant Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm.
Location - Southwest side of Edmonton near Heritage Valley Town Centre and James Mowat Trail.
Looking for an experienced staff with a background in supporting complex needs, de-escalation strategies, and boundary setting. Having Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or similar training is a must.
The Community Specialist II (CS II) will be reporting to the assigned Program Manager. The CS II is a highly experienced direct support role, typically relating to more complex and specialized situations, behaviours, or environments. They work front-line and are pivotal to the creation of a safe, caring, and community-enriched life for the individuals and families who hire us. Thoughtful programming planning and implementation support participants to connect with their communities – establishing real relationships and creating meaningful days and lives. The conscientious CSII will act with integrity, be open to growth, live our purpose, cultivate teamwork, and put forth an extraordinary effort to empower people with disabilities and their families to grow, succeed, and belong.
