Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Full Stack Developer to help build raign, an AI-powered legal practice management platform for Canadian law firms. This role requires hands-on experience across frontend development, backend services, database architecture, secure and scalable APIs, authentication, AI integrations, and role-based systems.
You will build connected applications supporting matter management, document workflows, time tracking, billing, email, calendars, client portals, and reporting. You will work closely with our technical and legal founders to turn product designs into reliable software that handles confidential information and complex business processes.
This is an in-office position, five days per week.

Core Responsibilities
Full Stack Development
- Develop responsive applications using React and TypeScript
- Build backend services using languages such as C#, Python, Java, Go, and their associated frameworks
- Translate Figma designs into functional, accessible interfaces
- Implement complete features across the frontend, backend, and database
- Build dashboards, dynamic forms, document libraries, data tables, and multi-step workflows
API Development and Data Architecture
- Design, build, and maintain secure and scalable APIs
- Implement input validation, pagination, rate limiting, error handling, and API documentation
- Design relational database schemas, migrations, indexes, and efficient queries
- Build reliable background jobs, webhook handlers, and data synchronization processes
- Develop secure file storage, document versioning, search, and retrieval
- Integrate external services such as Microsoft 365, QuickBooks, DocuSign, and Salesforce
AI Features and Integration
- Design and build end-to-end AI workflows, including multi-step agent orchestration, tool integration, and task execution across document, communication, and matter management
- Build backend processing and retrieval services that give AI agents access to authorized firm information while enforcing permissions
- Develop AI capabilities for document summarization, correspondence drafting, email classification, form completion, and suggested time entries
- Implement human review and approval checkpoints for AI-generated content and proposed actions
- Build validation, monitoring, error handling, and usage controls into AI services and agent workflows
Authentication and Role-Based Systems
- Build secure authentication and role-based access control (RBAC) systems
- Implement configurable roles and granular permissions for administrators, lawyers, support staff, and clients
- Enforce access restrictions across APIs, backend services, and database operations
- Support organization-level, matter-level, and document-level permissions
- Implement multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, and secure session management
- Build user administration tools and audit trails for sensitive actions
- Maintain tenant isolation and test authorization boundaries
General Responsibilities
- Participate in architecture decisions, sprint planning, and code reviews
- Own features through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support
- Write automated tests for business logic, APIs, permissions, and critical workflows
- Diagnose performance and reliability issues across the stack
- Maintain deployment pipelines, application monitoring, and technical documentation
- Support Canadian data residency and confidentiality requirements
- Collaborate with legal stakeholders to ensure software reflects real practice needs
Experience And / Or Education
- Have a Bachelor’s degree or a College Diploma in Computer Science or a related field. A strong software engineering foundation is important for this role’s success.
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience
Required Skills
- Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript
- Strong backend development experience with languages such as C#, Python, Java, Go
- Demonstrated experience building secure and scalable APIs
- Experience designing and building end-to-end AI agent workflows, including multi-step orchestration, tool integration, retrieval, and human approval checkpoints
- Experience implementing authentication and role-based systems, including granular permissions and tenant isolation
- Proficiency with relational databases such as PostgreSQL
- Experience building enterprise SaaS applications or complex business systems
- Understanding of asynchronous processing, third-party integrations, and reliable error handling
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, testing, and monitoring
- Strong debugging, documentation, and problem-solving skills
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with legal technology or practice management systems
- Experience with PDF generation, DOCX templating, and electronic signatures
- Experience with billing, accounting, calendar, or document management systems
- Familiarity with RAG, vector databases, and document processing
- Experience with AWS and Canadian cloud regions
- Experience developing software for regulated or privacy-sensitive environments
