Our client in Kanata, ON is looking to hire a buyer to join their team. This role combines hands-on purchasing activity with strategic procurement responsibilities, driving cost efficiency, supplier performance, and operational continuity.
Based in Kanata, Ottawa, the position supports both local and international operations, contributing to purchasing decisions, supplier strategy, and continuous improvement initiatives across the SSIA organization.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Purchasing Operations
- Execute day-to-day purchasing activities, including raising purchase orders, expediting deliveries, and ensuring continuity of supply.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date data within the ERP/MRP system, including supplier, pricing, and inventory records.
- Monitor and review standard cost data to ensure accuracy and alignment with current market conditions.
- Provide system and administrative support for purchase order processing and record management.
Supplier Management & Strategic Sourcing
- Identify, evaluate, and develop suppliers to meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Lead sourcing initiatives, including supplier selection, negotiation, and contract establishment.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to support long-term performance and risk mitigation.
- Conduct supplier audits and performance reviews where required.
Cost Optimization & Supply Chain Strategy
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, consolidation, and standardization across sites and regions.
- Support the development of strategic purchasing agreements and inventory optimization initiatives.
- Apply analytical thinking to improve sourcing decisions and supply chain efficiency.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a Buyer or Procurement role within a manufacturing or technical environment. Specializing in Electronic IT equipment and sheet metal purchasing.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and data management.
- Understanding of technical buying and supply chain processes.
- Experience in supplier development, contract management, and sourcing strategies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of supplier auditing and risk management practices is an asset.
