You will partner closely with business leaders to align people strategies with organizational objectives, combining strategic advice with hands-on HR support across employee relations, organizational change, performance management, and talent development.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic HR Business Partnership
- Serve as the primary HR partner for an assigned employee portfolio spanning multiple business groups and Canadian provinces.
- Build strong relationships with senior leaders, developing a clear understanding of their business priorities, workforce requirements, and talent needs.
- Develop and execute practical people strategies that support business objectives.
- Coach leaders on workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, talent development, and succession planning.
- Use HR data, workforce insights, and engagement trends to inform recommendations and decisions.
- Partner with HR leadership and Centres of Excellence to deliver coordinated support and address people-related risks.
Organizational Change & Employee Engagement
- Lead and support organizational change initiatives, including changes to team structures, business priorities, and ways of working.
- Guide leaders through the people implications of change, supporting effective communication and implementation.
- Translate employee feedback and engagement findings into meaningful action plans.
- Support initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, retention, collaboration, and performance.
Employee Relations & Performance
- Provide hands-on guidance on complex employee relations matters, performance concerns, grievances, and workplace issues.
- Manage or support workplace investigations and conflict resolution.
- Apply knowledge of employment legislation across relevant Canadian provinces when advising leaders.
- Coach managers on performance management, feedback, and employee development.
- Exercise sound judgment when assessing organizational risk and recommending appropriate action.
HR Programs & Projects
- Lead and contribute to regional, national, and global HR initiatives.
- Deliver programs across performance management, talent development, employee engagement, organizational development, and change management.
- Work effectively within a matrixed HR structure, collaborating with specialist teams while maintaining accountability for your business portfolio.
- Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, programs, and practices.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or post-secondary education in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of progressive HR experience, including substantial HR business partnering responsibilities.
- Experience within a large national or global enterprise, navigating multiple business units, stakeholders, and established HR functions.
- Direct responsibility for a substantial employee portfolio across multiple Canadian provinces, with demonstrated knowledge of differing provincial employment requirements.
- Proven experience advising senior leaders and independently managing complex employee relations and performance matters.
- Demonstrated experience leading organizational change and translating business priorities into practical HR initiatives.
- Experience supporting professional or technical employee populations; professional services experience is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to balance strategic priorities with day-to-day HR delivery in a dynamic environment.
- A relevant HR designation is considered an asset.
What We’re Looking For
A commercially minded HR partner who brings both scale and depth of experience: someone who has personally owned a sizeable, multi-province HR portfolio and can confidently advise leaders while managing complex employee matters.
You will build credibility quickly, challenge constructively, and bring sound judgment, discretion, and practical solutions to the business.
