What is the Opportunity?

Aecon Civil is a recognized leader in the market, backed by strong self-perform capabilities and deep local expertise. We play a key role in building and enhancing infrastructure across Canada, the U.S., and an expanding international footprint, improving everyday life through the roads, bridges, tunnels, and transit systems that connect communities. With more than a century of experience and a full suite of integrated services, Aecon is a trusted partner for delivering complex civil projects, including tunnels, transit expansions, airports, ports, highways, and large-scale site development.

The project is a landmark heavy civil infrastructure project in Ontario's Kawartha Lakes and Barrie regions. As a key part of the Arctic Over the Horizon Radar Program, the project includes significant on-site and off-site material movement activities, extensive earthworks, deep and shallow foundation construction, structural concrete works, and the delivery of multiple buildings and supporting infrastructure.

As part of this project, Aecon's Civil team is advancing nation-building infrastructure through a strategic partnership with Pomerleau and Stantec. Delivered through a collaborative Integrated Project Delivery model, an Aecon-led joint venture is responsible for project delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a high-profile project from early planning through completion, delivering lasting infrastructure that will make a meaningful impact for future generations. https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/operations/allies-partners/norad/aothr.html

Identify and resolve potential risks to ensure timely and cost-effective construction.
Have a strong understanding of prime contracts and subcontracts. Identify and concisely convey changes in scope, including construction acceleration and/or mitigations available to commercial, cost, and scheduling teams.
Provide input and ensure delivery of procurement activities, including validation of material specifications, preparation of purchase requisitions, material tracking, and ensuring traceability of materials when installed in the field.
Review, comment on, and ensure implementation of project design for compliance with construction-based engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, industry specifications, and other related specifications.
Advise on, resolve, and incorporate construction-related issues and convey outcomes to design, technical, engineering, risk, cost, and scheduling teams.
Review scopes of work and individually convey traffic requirements to designers for development.
Be accountable for designer performance and conveying drawings to permitting agencies for approval (signed and sealed as appropriate). Accountable for permitting performance.
Ensure construction means and methods have the appropriate design (by design partner) and permits approved by relevant stakeholders.
Ensure that subordinate coordinators are performing daily traffic configuration logs, lane closure logs, and developing solutions to ensure the most timely and cost-effective construction sequence. Represent the contractor at all design meetings with internal designers, stakeholders, and clients pertaining to traffic-related matters.
Support the resolution of labour disputes through collaboration with EPSCA and Aecon Labour Relations Manager.
Actively participate in quality assurance and quality control with regard to understanding and implementing policies and procedures. Oversee field quality control and assist in the creation of risk mitigation strategies and implement where necessary.

Experience in trades union relations management and a solid understanding of union agreements applicable to the work.
Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to resolve issues and effectively liaise with third-party agencies, government bodies, municipalities, local transit authorities, and other stakeholders.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Knowledge of all aspects of construction, including equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, traffic, environmental, scheduling, and safety requirements.
Valid Driver’s License.
