Job Description
On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is seeking a Business Analyst. The successful candidate will deliver business analysis services in support of strategic digital initiatives and ongoing operations, including areas such as Admissions 360 and Digital Identity. They will help transform business needs into actionable requirements, recommendations, and solutions in support of Humber’s digital transformation and operational goals. They will work closely with business stakeholders, Product Owners, Enterprise Architecture, technical teams, vendors, and business partners to ensure alignment, informed decision-making, and successful solution delivery.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business and technology interested parties to understand strategic objectives, business needs, challenges, and opportunities.
- Lead and support discovery activities, including interviews, workshops, process analysis, and requirements elicitation.
- Analyze and document current-state and future-state business processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, simplification, and automation.
- Support Product Owners in defining, refining, and maintaining initiative backlogs and connecting detailed requirements to expected business outcomes.
- Partner with Enterprise Architecture and technical teams to provide the business context and requirements needed to evaluate solution options and inform recommendations.
- Facilitate cross-functional discussions to clarify requirements, resolve gaps, identify dependencies, and support alignment and decision-making.
- Support quality assurance and user acceptance testing activities, including test planning, requirements validation, defect resolution, and coordination of business sign-off, as required.
- Coordinate business analysis activities across related initiatives and workstreams to maintain consistency and alignment of requirements.
- Identify and assess risks, issues, and dependencies that may affect business outcomes, recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Conduct fit-gap and solution gap analyses to assess alignment between business requirements, existing capabilities, and proposed solutions.
- Develop and document detailed business and system requirements, including technical specifications, data and integration requirements, and user interface requirements, as appropriate to assigned initiatives.
- Support vendor and solution evaluation activities by documenting requirements, analyzing proposed capabilities, and assessing alignment with business needs.
- Support planning and implementation by maintaining requirements traceability and helping ensure delivered solutions align with agreed business needs.
- Develop clear documentation, analysis, and recommendations that enable informed decision-making.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of business analysis standards, templates, and ways of working across Humber.
Qualifications
- Resources assigned to deliver the services must possess a minimum of five years of relevant business analysis, strategic analysis, digital transformation, or comparable experience within complex enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading discovery, requirements gathering, business process analysis, and future-state definition.
- Experience supporting complex digital or technology-enabled initiatives involving multiple business and technical interested parties.
- Strong facilitation, analytical, problem-solving, written, verbal, and presentation capabilities.
- Experience working collaboratively with Product Owners, Enterprise Architecture, technical teams, vendors, and business partners.
- Experience working within product or iterative delivery environments and managing work through structured backlogs.
- Experience translating business requirements into detailed functional and technical specifications, including system integrations and data requirements.
- Ability to effectively manage competing priorities, communicate dependencies, and adapt to evolving business and project requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with Agile, Scrum, DevOps, or comparable iterative delivery methodologies.
- Working knowledge of AI-assisted business analysis tools and techniques, with appropriate validation of AI-generated outputs before they inform decisions.
- Experience with Salesforce, AWS, Microsoft Entra, or comparable tools, higher education systems and integrations, QA/UAT, vendor evaluation, procurement, system implementation, or public-sector environments is considered an asset.
