Job Description

On behalf of our public-sector client, Affinity is seeking a Data Quality Analyst. The Data Quality Analyst is expected to work alongside the Data Governance Analyst and business SMEs, with a more hands-on focus on understanding the current state of BC Housing's data, identifying and profiling data quality issues, defining measurable data quality rules and controls, performing root-cause analysis, and supporting remediation. The role will likely help turn the governance standards established by the Data Governance Analyst into practical, measurable controls at the data level.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data profiling and data quality assessments across prioritized datasets and business use cases.
  • Identify data issues involving accuracy, completeness, consistency, validity, uniqueness, timeliness and integrity.
  • Work with business SMEs, Data Owners and Data Stewards to understand data definitions, business rules and acceptable quality thresholds.
  • Develop and document data quality rules, validation criteria and measurable thresholds.
  • Establish repeatable processes for monitoring data quality and identifying exceptions.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on recurring data quality issues and determine whether problems originate from source systems, business processes, integrations, transformations or reporting layers.
  • Maintain data quality issue logs, including severity, ownership, remediation status and resolution.
  • Work with business and technical teams to develop and track remediation plans.
  • Support the identification and assessment of Critical Data Elements (CDEs) and determine appropriate quality controls for those elements.
  • Assist with data reconciliation and validation across source systems and downstream reporting/analytics environments.
  • Develop data quality metrics, scorecards, dashboards and KPIs to provide visibility into data health and remediation progress.
  • Support metadata, business glossary, data dictionary and lineage activities where they intersect with data quality.
  • Help establish reusable data quality standards, templates, procedures and testing methodologies.
  • Partner closely with the Data Governance Analyst so that data quality rules align with BC Housing's emerging governance policies and framework.
  • Communicate data quality findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and help business units understand their responsibilities for correcting issues.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Data Quality, Data Analysis, Data Management or Data Governance.
  • Strong hands-on SQL skills for profiling, querying, reconciliation and validation.
  • Demonstrated experience performing data profiling and data quality assessments.
  • Experience creating data quality rules, thresholds, controls and scorecards.
  • Strong understanding of core DQ dimensions: completeness, accuracy, consistency, validity, uniqueness and timeliness.
  • Experience conducting root-cause analysis and remediation of data issues.
  • Experience documenting data definitions, business rules, metadata and lineage.
  • Understanding of Data Governance, Data Stewardship, Data Ownership and Critical Data Elements.
  • Experience working with data across ETL/integration pipelines, databases, data warehouses and BI/reporting environments.
  • Ability to translate business rules into technical validation logic.
  • Strong stakeholder-facing skills, particularly working with business SMEs who may not have deep data expertise.
  • Experience working independently in an environment where data management capabilities are still being established.
  • Microsoft Purview experience, particularly around cataloguing, lineage, metadata, classifications and governance.
  • Microsoft Azure data platform experience.
  • Power BI experience for DQ dashboards/scorecards.
  • Experience with Collibra, Informatica or dedicated data-quality tooling.
  • DAMA-DMBOK / CDMP knowledge or certification.
  • Public-sector, Crown corporation or other complex regulated-enterprise experience.
  • Privacy, records management or regulatory/compliance exposure.
