Job Description
On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is seeking a Financial Business Analyst to support Finance and Data & Analytics as the organization transitions to a new financial model. This consultant will bring strong accounting expertise to define and validate reporting requirements, translate Finance needs into actionable data specifications, support reporting and automation initiatives, and ensure financial solutions accurately reconcile to the general ledger and meet business requirements.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting Requirements & Validation Support
▪ Assess the reporting impacts of E-Comm’s new financial model and document required changes to existing reports.
▪ Engage with Finance and business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document current and future business requirements for financial reports, dashboards, and analytical solutions.
▪ Engage with Finance and D&A to understand opportunities to automate calculations for cost transfers between cost centers and opportunities for journal entry imports.
▪ Translate financial and business requirements into clear functional and data requirements for the Data & Analytics team.
▪ Review report and dashboard requirements, designs, and prototypes developed by the Data & Analytics team to confirm alignment with documented financial and business requirements.
▪ Provide financial and business expertise to support the Data & Analytics team in the development of financial reports, dashboards, and analytical tools and journal entry imports.
▪ Validate completed reports and dashboards from a financial and business perspective, including review of calculations, data presentation, financial logic, and alignment with stakeholder requirements.
▪ The Contractor will not be responsible for the technical development, coding, configuration, implementation, or ongoing maintenance of reports, dashboards, data pipelines, databases, or other data and analytics solutions.
Collaboration With Data & Analytics
▪ Work closely with data analysts, BI developers, data engineers, and other members of the Data & Analytics team.
▪ Provide business and financial context to support the design and development of reporting solutions.
▪ Assist with data mapping and identification of appropriate source systems and data elements.
▪ Participate in solution design discussions and provide guidance on financial reporting requirements.
▪ Help prioritize reporting enhancements based on business needs and stakeholder requirements.
Required Technical Profile
▪ A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) certification is strongly preferred
▪ A minimum of 5 years of related accounting experience
▪ A strong understanding of accounting principles, journal entry structures, and financial reporting standards.
▪ Deep understanding of Dynamics 365 Business Central data and standard financial modules.
▪ An understanding of Business Central's out-of-the-box import frameworks such as configuration Packages is an asset
▪ Experience working with BI teams using Power BI is an asset.
▪ Clear verbal and written skills to present financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
▪ Strong attention to detail and high accuracy in data analysis, reconciling reports back to the general ledger and resolving discrepancies
Deliverables
▪ Current and future-state financial reporting requirements, including the impacts of the new financial model.
▪ Data mapping of source systems, Business Central data elements, and GL accounts.
▪ Requirements to develop a tool that can be used to calculate cost centre transfers and import the journal entry into Business Central, in collaboration with D&A. The tool will export details from the GL, perform calculations to split costs out to cost centres, and output the results in journal entry format for upload.
▪ Requirements for cost transfer automation and journal entry imports.
▪ Validation and reconciliation sign-off for each report and dashboard.
