Job Description
On behalf of our client, Affinity is seeking a BI Developer to build semantic models and dashboards for an Enterprise organizations business reporting. The BI Developer will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining reporting solutions and dashboards that transform enterprise data into actionable insights. This role will work closely with Product Leads, business stakeholders, data engineers, and other BI developers to deliver high-quality visualizations and ensure that reporting is accurate, consistent, and aligned with business needs.
You will work on our Enterprise Data Platform (EDP), built on Microsoft Fabric, using curated Gold-layer data prepared by our analytics engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Dashboard and Report Development
- Design, build, and maintain Power BI semantic models, dashboards, and reports on Gold-layer data in EDP.
- Translate business requirements into effective data visualizations and self-service reporting solutions.
- Develop star-schema models and DAX measures, including time intelligence and reusable business metrics.
- Publish and manage content in Power BI Service, including refresh schedules, row-level security (RLS), and workspace access.
- Monitor and improve report and model performance.
Data Modelling Collaboration
- Understand how Gold-layer data is shaped by upstream layers, and trace metrics back to source.
- Work with analytics engineers to define the fields, grain, and dimensions that reports need.
- Flag data gaps and quality issues early and help resolve them.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into KPIs and report designs.
- Validate report figures against source systems (e.g., Yardi) and document any variances.
- Document KPI definitions, business rules, and data lineage.
Ways of Working
- Use version control (Git) and follow peer review, testing, and release practices.
- Support business users with training and self-service reporting.
- Use Power BI Copilot and approved AI tools to speed up development and documentation, validating output before use.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience developing BI solutions, preferably in an enterprise setting.
- Strong hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
- Solid DAX fundamentals: row and filter context, context transition, CALCULATE, and time intelligence.
- Understanding of how Power BI works under the hood: storage modes (Import, DirectQuery, Direct Lake), relationships and cross-filter direction, and query folding in Power Query.
- Good understanding of dimensional modelling (star schema, facts vs. dimensions, grain).
- Proficiency in SQL.
- Experience with RLS, scheduled and incremental refresh, and gateways.
- Clear communication with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Nice to Have
- Financial, property, or operational reporting in real estate or asset management.
- Experience with Yardi or Argus.
- Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, dbt, or medallion architecture.
- Experience with calculation groups, Tabular Editor, or DAX Studio.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments (e.g., Azure DevOps).
Top Skills Necessary
- Power BI Development: 5+ years hands-on experience developing and maintaining Power BI semantic models, dashboards, and reports using Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
- Semantic Modelling & Data Modelling: 5+ years of experience designing star-schema models, defining facts and dimensions, and translating business requirements into scalable reporting solutions.
- Advanced DAX & SQL: 5+ years of experience developing DAX capabilities including time intelligence, reusable business metrics, and performance optimization, combined with solid SQL proficiency.
- Business & Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to work directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, define KPIs, validate results, and deliver actionable insights through reporting.
