Original job description
On behalf of our public-sector client, we are seeking a Senior Project Manager. The successful candidate will provide project management services to support the development and delivery of a business case for a major infrastructure project, including a comprehensive analysis of costs, benefits, risks, and long-term impacts of various options to support informed decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Project Planning & Initiation: Lead and coordinate all aspects of assigned work, including defining scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and resource needs; develop and maintain project charters, schedules, budgets, and project management plans; and develop proposed governance structures and communication plans for approval.
- Day-to-Day Project Management: Manage daily project activities to ensure work progresses according to approved plans; maintain project documentation, decisions, and approvals in alignment with established governance requirements.
- Leadership & Coordination: Coordinate cross-functional project teams, facilitate collaboration across technical and business groups, coordinate and track project tasks within the approved work plan, and help resolve team challenges to ensure successful delivery.
- Stakeholder & Vendor Management: Serve as the primary point of contact, ensuring consistent communication and accountability; monitor vendor performance against contracted deliverables and costs; communicate status, risks, and issues; and build effective relationships with stakeholders, executives, sponsors, and partners.
- Authority & Decision Support: Monitor vendor performance, identify non-performance, recommend corrective actions, and escalate issues as required; recognise that final authority for scope, budget, procurement, and contract decisions, including approval of expenditures, payments, and change orders, remains with the client, and that the Senior Project Manager shall not bind or commit the client.
- Work Planning & Resourcing: Develop and maintain detailed work plans, schedules, budget forecasts, and proposed resource allocations for approval, and monitor progress against them to ensure alignment with project objectives and timelines.
- Risk, Issue & Change Management: Identify, track, and mitigate risks and issues throughout the project lifecycle; administer the formal change control process, including preparing change requests and recommendations for decision-making; and ensure compliance with established frameworks.
- Monitoring, Reporting & Performance Management: Monitor project performance, identify improvement opportunities, and prepare and deliver regular status reports, presentations, and updates to stakeholders and sponsors.
- Meetings & Communications: Organise and facilitate project meetings, briefings, and progress updates, ensuring effective communication and alignment across all stakeholders.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure project deliverables meet defined requirements and acceptance processes to maintain quality standards.
- Documentation & Deliverables Management: Maintain complete, accurate, and auditable project records; ensure all documentation, decisions, risks, and deliverables are properly stored in designated systems (e.g., SharePoint) to support audit, continuity, and knowledge transfer.
- Financial & Resource Management: Prepare, track, and forecast project budgets for approval; review and track invoices and recommend them for approval; and coordinate project resources effectively to support delivery.
- Project Closeout: Lead project closeout activities, including preparation of knowledge transfer materials, documentation, operational handover deliverables, and lessons learned.
- Advisory Support: Provide guidance on project management best practices, tools, and methodologies to support effective delivery.
- Confidentiality & IP: Ensure all work products and materials remain the property of the client and comply with all applicable confidentiality, privacy, and security requirements.
- General Duties: Perform other related services within the scope of the engagement, as reasonably requested by the client.
