Job Description
On behalf of our client, Affinity is seeking a Solution Architect with deep Commvault expertise to lead enterprise data protection and recovery initiatives. This role combines strategic advisory services, solution architecture, and hands-on technical leadership, requiring an individual who can engage executive stakeholders on long-term data protection strategy while also supporting the design, implementation, and optimization of complex Commvault environments. The successful candidate will drive modernization, cyber resilience, and recovery programs across large-scale enterprise infrastructures in regulated environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead discovery and current-state assessments of enterprise backup, recovery, and data protection estates
- Build and present roadmaps that connect data protection to business outcomes - RTO/RPO targets, cyber resilience, cost, and audit posture
- Advise executive and director-level stakeholders on modernization: on-prem to hybrid, air-gapped and immutable copies, ransomware recovery readiness
- Run workshops, whiteboard sessions, and executive briefings; be credible with both the storage team and the CIO
- Develop reusable reference architectures, standards, and internal practice assets
- Represent the practice in pre-sales and solutioning conversations where required
- Design end-to-end Commvault architectures at enterprise scale: CommServe, MediaAgents, index and deduplication design, storage tiering, and client distribution
- Size and capacity-plan across multi-site, multi-petabyte environments
- Design protection for mixed estates - VMware, Hyper-V, physical, SQL, Oracle, SAP, Exchange, SharePoint, file, NAS, and container workloads
- Architect cloud and hybrid data protection (Azure, AWS, GCP), including Metallic / Commvault Cloud where applicable
- Design cyber resilience and clean-room recovery patterns: immutability, air gap, anomaly detection, isolated recovery environments
- Produce HLDs, LLDs, migration plans, and runbooks that other engineers can actually execute
- Design DR strategy and lead recovery testing methodology
- Lead and hands-on support build, migration, and cutover activity
- Configure storage policies, plans, schedules, retention, auxiliary copies, and reporting
- Migrate from legacy platforms (NetBackup, Veeam, TSM/Spectrum Protect, Rubrik, Networker) onto Commvault
- Own complex escalations and performance tuning that the delivery team can't resolve
- Mentor engineers and transfer knowledge to client operations teams at handover
Qualifications
- 10+ years in enterprise data protection, storage, or infrastructure, with 5+ years focused on Commvault
- Proven track record architecting Commvault at genuine enterprise scale - thousands of clients, multi-petabyte, multi-site
- Experience leading at least one large legacy-to-Commvault migration end to end
- Strong grounding in adjacent infrastructure: VMware, enterprise storage (NetApp, Dell EMC, Pure), Windows and Linux, networking fundamentals
- Cloud data protection experience across at least one major hyperscaler
- Demonstrated executive presence - you can lead a steering committee, defend a design under challenge, and write a document a CIO will read
- Excellent documentation and presentation skills; consulting or professional services background strongly preferred
- Experience in regulated environments (financial services, healthcare, public sector) and familiarity with audit, compliance, and retention obligations
- Commvault certifications (Certified Expert / Master, Professional)
- Commvault Cloud / Metallic SaaS design experience
- Cyber recovery and clean-room design experience
- Automation and reporting via Commvault REST API, PowerShell, or Python
- Kubernetes and container data protection
- Familiarity with competing platforms for credible comparative advisory
