About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer to join our Manufacturing team in Calgary. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automation solutions that enhance our production capabilities. Your expertise will support the creation of advanced automated manufacturing and testing systems, ensuring they are efficient, reliable, and compliant with safety standards. As an Automation Engineer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to lead automation projects from conception through to final deployment, providing technical guidance and ensuring seamless integration of automation technologies into our manufacturing processes. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of education, technical expertise, and hands-on experience. A bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required. Proven experience in developing, troubleshooting, and commissioning PLC programs and HMI applications is essential. Familiarity with programming, integrating, and commissioning industrial or collaborative robots is highly desirable. Candidates should have experience configuring servo drives, motors, and motion-control systems, along with a solid understanding of electrical schematics, machine drawings, and industrial communication networks. Legal authorization to work in Canada without sponsorship is mandatory. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of industry standards such as ISO 9001, Six Sigma, and familiarity with CAD software like SolidWorks. Additional experience with SCADA, LabVIEW, embedded systems, programming languages (Python, C/C++), and manufacturing data systems will be considered advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement automation solutions to transform manual and semi-automated manufacturing processes into fully integrated systems for assembly and testing.
- Create controls architecture, functional requirements, machine sequences, I/O layouts, and network strategies to ensure seamless integration of automation components.
- Program, troubleshoot, and commission PLCs, HMIs, servo-motion systems, industrial and collaborative robots, and other machine controls to meet production specifications.
- Integrate various automation components including vision systems, sensors, safety devices, pneumatics, and test equipment, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance.
- Lead automation projects from initial concept and design through to programming, testing, installation, validation, and final production hand-off.
- Develop comprehensive technical documentation such as project proposals, specifications, SOPs, operating manuals, and maintenance procedures to support ongoing operations.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to optimize machine layouts, tooling, fixtures, and safety measures, ensuring manufacturability and reliability.
- Train technicians, engineers, and operators on equipment operation, robot programming, troubleshooting, and safety protocols.
- Provide ongoing support for production by diagnosing and resolving automation issues, enhancing equipment reliability, and improving process efficiency.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies to increase throughput, quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure all automated equipment complies with safety, quality, and documentation standards before deployment into production environments.
