About The Role

Utilismart Corporation is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Database Administrator to join our Information Technology team. Reporting directly to the Manager of IT, the successful candidate will play a vital role in safeguarding and optimizing our internal data assets. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and stability of our digital platform by designing, implementing, and maintaining robust database systems. The Database Administrator will be responsible for ensuring the integrity, security, and performance of our databases, supporting ongoing development initiatives, and aligning database strategies with the company's long-term objectives. The role requires a proactive professional capable of managing complex data environments and providing expert support across various departments.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a post-secondary degree or diploma in computer science or a related field, complemented by a minimum of three years of hands-on experience working with SQL and Oracle databases. Experience with Solaris operating systems and database design is essential. Industry-recognized certifications relevant to database administration, such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, are highly desirable. The candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to staying current with emerging technologies, best practices, and industry standards through continuous learning, workshops, training, and professional publications. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team are crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

The Database Administrator will be entrusted with a broad range of responsibilities to ensure the optimal functioning of Utilismart’s data systems. Key duties include developing and implementing data administration policies, standards, and models, as well as leading and coordinating teams of data administrators during development phases. The role involves researching and documenting critical data requirements, collection policies, access rules, and security protocols to safeguard sensitive information. The candidate will design procedures for network and internet database access, usage, backup, and recovery, ensuring data integrity and availability. Regular maintenance tasks such as patching, securing, and optimizing databases for performance are essential. The role also requires designing and implementing utilities for monitoring database health, writing scripts for stored procedures and triggers, and conducting research to advise other IT professionals on data collection, security, and usability issues. Additionally, the Database Administrator will maintain user manuals and how-to materials, provide Tier I and Tier II support to internal staff, and support Utilismart’s ISO certification obligations by maintaining necessary ISMS documentation.
