About The Role

The Data Scientist - Level 5 at McKesson is a strategic leadership role dedicated to advancing the company’s data science capabilities. This position is pivotal in designing, developing, and deploying sophisticated predictive analytics and machine learning models that drive data-informed decision-making across the enterprise. Operating within a regulated environment, the role ensures strict compliance while fostering innovation and delivering measurable business impact.

This role involves integrating large and diverse datasets, architecting specialized databases, and managing computing environments tailored for data science projects. Collaboration with engineering, service teams, and business stakeholders is essential to ensure solutions align with enterprise priorities. The Data Scientist provides technical guidance, mentorship, and thought leadership, promoting best practices and enhancing data literacy throughout the organization.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in deploying scalable model solutions, including batch and streaming patterns, with a focus on model evaluation frameworks, lifecycle metrics, and interpretability for governance and compliance. Advanced knowledge in predictive modeling across various business problems under production constraints is essential, along with proficiency in synthetic data generation for augmentation and privacy preservation.

A strong business acumen is required to translate analytical insights into actionable strategies. The candidate should demonstrate leadership in designing and developing advanced analytics solutions and mentoring junior data scientists to ensure high-quality project delivery. Technical proficiency, combined with excellent communication skills, is critical to effectively present findings and influence decision-making at all organizational levels.

Responsibilities

Lead the end-to-end development and deployment of advanced predictive analytics and machine learning models to solve complex business and IT challenges.

Oversee the integration, preparation, and management of large datasets, architect specialized databases, and manage computing environments optimized for data science projects.

Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and best practice standards to data science team members, fostering continuous learning and development.

Create compelling data visualizations, dashboards, and analytical reports to communicate insights effectively to leadership, IT, and business stakeholders.

Collaborate with engineering and service management teams to ensure data science solutions are aligned with business needs and executed efficiently.

Communicate model predictions and insights clearly, recommending strategic changes to improve processes, procedures, and overall business strategies.

Present analytical findings and strategic recommendations to executive leadership, supporting enterprise-wide data-driven decision-making.

Drive the adoption of emerging technologies and innovative approaches to strengthen McKesson's data science capabilities and maintain competitive advantage.
