About The Role

The Data Scientist - Level 5 at McKesson is a strategic leadership position responsible for advancing the company's data science capabilities. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying sophisticated predictive analytics and machine learning models that support data-driven decision-making across various enterprise functions. Operating within a regulated environment, the Data Scientist ensures compliance with industry standards while fostering innovation and delivering measurable business impact.

The role requires integration of large and diverse datasets, architecture of specialized databases, and management of computing environments tailored for data science projects. Collaboration with engineering, IT, and business stakeholders is essential to align solutions with organizational priorities. The position also involves providing technical guidance, mentorship, and thought leadership to promote best practices and enhance data literacy within the organization.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess expertise in deploying scalable model solutions, including batch and stream processing patterns. They should have a strong understanding of model evaluation frameworks, lifecycle metrics, and interpretability standards necessary for governance and compliance. Advanced skills in predictive modeling across various business problem types, especially under production constraints, are essential.

Proficiency in synthetic data generation for augmentation and privacy preservation, along with strong business acumen to translate analytical insights into actionable strategies, is required. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to lead cross-functional teams, guide junior data scientists, and ensure high-quality project delivery. A deep understanding of emerging technologies and innovative approaches to data science is also critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities

Lead the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of advanced predictive analytics and machine learning models to solve complex enterprise challenges.

Oversee the integration, cleaning, and preparation of large datasets, architect specialized databases, and manage computing environments optimized for data science initiatives.

Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to data science team members, ensuring adherence to best practices in modeling, automation, and visualization techniques.

Create and deliver compelling data visualizations, dashboards, and analytical reports to executive leadership, IT, and business units to facilitate informed decision-making.

Collaborate closely with engineering and service teams to ensure data science solutions are aligned with business needs and operational requirements.

Communicate complex predictions and insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders, recommending strategic adjustments to processes and policies based on data insights.

Drive innovation by exploring and adopting emerging data science technologies and methodologies to enhance McKesson's analytical capabilities.

Promote a culture of data literacy across the organization by sharing knowledge, best practices, and fostering continuous learning among team members.
