Original job description

About The Company

Ecolab Inc. is a global company focused on providing solutions and services that support cleaner, safer, and more efficient environments. Through its businesses and technologies, Ecolab serves customers across a range of industries. CoolIT Systems, an Ecolab company, was founded in Calgary, Alberta, in 2001 and is a leading provider of direct liquid cooling technology for data centers, supercomputers, and desktop computers. Its products are designed and manufactured for customers around the world.

CoolIT has earned recognition for its growth and innovation, including distinctions from the Financial Times and Deloitte. With demand increasing for generative AI, high-performance computing, and cloud services, the company is continuing to develop and deliver cooling solutions for evolving technology needs.

About The Role

CoolIT Systems is seeking a Quality Engineer to join its Quality team. In this role, you will investigate product failures, develop and execute tests, and help determine root causes. You will collaborate with internal teams, customers, and external stakeholders to support effective corrective and preventive actions. Your technical judgment, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail will contribute to product quality, customer satisfaction, and ongoing innovation.

This position is suited to an engineer who enjoys practical investigation and can communicate technical findings clearly. You will work with electro-mechanical products and systems, using appropriate test equipment, tools, and documentation to support reliable outcomes.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechatronics, Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Three to five years of quality-related work experience.
Legal authorization to work in Canada without company sponsorship.
Strong written and spoken English skills for internal and external communication, including technical writing.
Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.

Preferred qualifications include hands-on experience setting up and using data acquisition systems, sensors, and actuators; assembling and disassembling mechanical products; and using common hand tools. The ability to interpret technical drawings, inspection plans, and product specifications is valuable. Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, injection molding, extrusion, welding, additive manufacturing, and surface treatment is also an asset.

Additional strengths include experience with 3D modeling tools such as SolidWorks; bench equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, logic analyzers, and multimeters; and testing or qualifying electro-mechanical components and systems. Experience investigating product failures, preparing 8D reports, and recommending corrective and preventive actions is preferred.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot product failures and determine root causes through structured investigation.
Write and execute test plans that gather reliable evidence and support failure analysis.
Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Prepare non-conformance reports (NCRs) and 8D documentation to record findings and actions.
Provide customers with clear, timely technical updates on investigations and analysis.
Design test fixtures and software solutions that improve the efficiency and repeatability of testing.
Use engineering judgment and appropriate measurement tools to support product quality and continuous improvement.

Benefits

Ecolab and CoolIT aim to provide an engaging workplace with opportunities for career development. The comprehensive benefits package includes vacation and flex days, as well as a paid company-wide holiday shutdown. Health coverage includes dental, prescription drugs, optical, paramedical services, and a health spending account, with coverage beginning on the first day. Employees can also access company-funded RRSP contributions and tenure-based retention rewards that may include additional vacation time and a monetary bonus. The workplace offers a casual yet professional dress-for-your-day environment.

Employment offers may be subject to background checks, including criminal record and education verification. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

Equal Opportunity

Ecolab Inc. is committed to fair and equal treatment of associates and applicants and to advancing equal opportunity in employment. Hiring, promotion, transfer, compensation, benefits, working conditions, and advancement opportunities are based on individual qualifications and job performance. Ecolab does not discriminate against applicants or associates on the basis of race, religion, color, creed, national origin, citizenship status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, age, disability, or any other status protected by applicable law.
