Original job description

CoolIT Systems, an Ecolab company, is seeking a Quality Engineer to help maintain product quality and customer satisfaction. In this role, you will investigate product failures, develop and execute test plans, and work with internal and external stakeholders to identify root causes and recommend effective corrective and preventive actions. Your technical judgment and attention to detail will support continuous improvement as the company grows.

About The Company

Founded in Calgary, Alberta, in 2001, CoolIT Systems is a leading provider of Direct Liquid Cooling technology for data centers, supercomputers, and desktop computers. The company designs and manufactures cooling solutions used by major technology companies around the world. As demand for generative artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and cloud solutions continues to grow, CoolIT is helping customers address increasingly complex thermal-management needs.

CoolIT has received recognition for its growth and innovation, including being named to the Financial Times list of The Americas’ Fastest Growing Companies in 2023, receiving the Deloitte Fast 50 Clean Technology award in 2022, and earning Deloitte Fast 500 recognition in 2021 and 2022. As part of Ecolab, CoolIT offers a collaborative, innovative environment with opportunities to contribute to meaningful technology and quality initiatives.

About The Role

As a Quality Engineer, you will play an important role in the Quality team by applying structured problem-solving methods to product and system failures. You will plan and perform investigations, document findings, and communicate technical updates to customers and other stakeholders. You will also help improve testing processes by developing test fixtures and software solutions that make investigations more efficient. This position is based in Canada and may require travel of up to 10%.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechatronics, Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Three to five years of quality-related work experience.
Legal authorization to work in Canada without company sponsorship.
Strong English communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical documentation for internal and external audiences.
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
Experience setting up and using data acquisition systems, sensors, and actuators is preferred.
Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly and disassembly, and confidence using common hand tools, is preferred.
Ability to interpret technical drawings, inspection plans, quality control plans, and product specifications is preferred.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, injection molding, extrusion, welding, additive manufacturing, and surface treatment is an asset.
Working knowledge of 3D modeling tools such as SolidWorks and bench equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, logic analyzers, and multimeters is preferred.
Experience testing and qualifying electromechanical parts and systems, conducting failure analysis, preparing 8D reports, and recommending corrective and preventive actions is an asset.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot product failures and determine their root causes.
Develop and execute test plans to investigate product performance and failure modes.
Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders on corrective and preventive actions.
Prepare non-conformance reports and 8D documentation to clearly record analysis, findings, and recommended actions.
Provide customers with timely, accurate technical updates throughout failure investigations.
Design test fixtures and software solutions that support efficient, repeatable testing.
Apply careful, evidence-based analysis to support product quality, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.

Benefits

CoolIT offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employee well-being, development, and long-term financial goals. Benefits include vacation and flex days, as well as a paid company-wide holiday shutdown. Health coverage includes dental, prescription drugs, vision, paramedical services, and a Health Spending Account, with coverage available from your first day. Employees can enjoy a casual yet professional dress-for-your-day environment, company-funded Registered Retirement Savings Plan contributions, and tenure-based retention rewards that may include additional vacation time and a monetary bonus. CoolIT also supports career and development opportunities as part of its commitment to employees and its workplace culture.

Equal Opportunity

Ecolab is committed to fair and equal treatment of associates and applicants and to advancing equal employment opportunity. Employment decisions, including recruitment, hiring, promotion, transfer, compensation, benefits, working conditions, and advancement, are based on individual qualifications and job performance. Ecolab does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, creed, national origin, citizenship status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, age, or disability. Candidates selected to move forward may be required to complete background checks, including criminal record and education checks.
