About The Company

At Intact Financial, our employees are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we help people, businesses and society prosper in good times and remain resilient in challenging times. We are committed to creating a workplace where employees can contribute meaningfully, collaborate as a team and grow their careers while helping shape the future of insurance.

About The Role

We are seeking a Senior Data Developer (Engineer) to help build the data foundation for Contact Distributor, Intact’s new platform for broker and distributor master data. This platform will replace fragmented legacy sources - including mainframes, databases and spreadsheet-based tools - with a trusted, governed view of brokerages, broker codes and organizational hierarchies.

As a key member of the initial product squad, you will take a hands-on role in discovering, profiling, cleansing, migrating and integrating legacy data. You will help establish data quality, governance and operational reliability from the outset. Working in a self-managed, cross-functional team with a Tech Lead, engineers, architects, business experts and a Product Owner, you will take ownership from early investigation through production support. This is a new role on a growing team.

Qualifications

You have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, along with at least eight years of data or software engineering experience, including three or more years in a senior or lead position. You have designed, built and operated production ETL/ELT pipelines, including batch and incremental processing, orchestration, scheduling, monitoring, error handling and recovery.

You bring experience migrating data from legacy, mainframe or packaged systems, including extraction, cleansing, reconciliation and cutover. Strong SQL, relational data modeling, performance tuning and expertise in Python or Java are required, as are familiarity with AWS, Git, CI/CD, automated testing and observability. You can communicate clearly, take initiative and influence decisions using evidence.

Experience with AWS data services such as Glue, EMR, Step Functions or Athena; Spark; integration tools; enterprise schedulers; change data capture; master data management; Databricks or Snowflake is an asset. Insurance or broker distribution experience is also beneficial. Candidates must be authorized to work in Canada. Quebec-based candidates must be bilingual in French and English to collaborate frequently with colleagues across Canada. Canadian work experience is not required.

Responsibilities

Co-design and implement a target data model that supports organizational hierarchies, historical records, auditability and crosswalks between legacy sources and trusted records. Validate the design against actual source data. Build configurable, restartable and idempotent AWS data pipelines that move information from mainframes, files and databases through raw, standardized and curated data layers.

Lead data migration activities, including profiling, normalization, matching, reconciliation, parallel runs and cutover. Translate business requirements into automated data quality controls, and support lineage, cataloging, security and cost management. Publish trusted data for downstream reporting and legacy-system integrations, partnering with the Java backend team.

Develop unit, integration and automated data tests, and apply CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code practices. Contribute to design discussions, sprint planning, code reviews, documentation and technical standards. Provide guidance to teammates, communicate risks and findings to stakeholders, and support incremental delivery in a Scrum or Kanban environment.

Benefits

Intact offers flexible work arrangements and a hybrid model, plus the option to purchase up to five additional days off annually. Benefits support physical and mental wellbeing and include telemedicine and a wellness account. The salary range is $101,800–$124,400 for a 35-hour workweek; final compensation depends on experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution and internal equity. The target annual bonus is 12% of base salary, with potential payouts of up to twice the target based on individual and company performance. Employees can participate in a share purchase plan with a 50% company match on net shares, savings programs and pension options, including a defined benefit plan offering the opportunity for guaranteed lifetime income.

Equal Opportunity

Intact Financial is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and strive to create an accessible, inclusive workplace where employees feel respected and encouraged to share their perspectives. We welcome applications from equity-deserving groups, including women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, Black people and members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community. Accommodations are available throughout recruitment and employment; please let us know what adjustments you need. Candidates must maintain authorization to work in Canada, as Intact does not provide immigration sponsorship. Intact employees should apply through the Internal Career Site.
