About The Company

BMO Financial Group is a leading North American financial services provider committed to delivering innovative banking, investment, and wealth management solutions to its diverse clientele. With a rich history spanning over two centuries, BMO prides itself on fostering a culture of integrity, inclusivity, and excellence. The organization emphasizes sustainable growth, community engagement, and technological advancement to meet the evolving needs of its customers. As a forward-thinking institution, BMO continually invests in digital transformation initiatives to enhance customer experiences and operational efficiencies, making it a trusted partner for individuals and businesses alike.

About The Role

The Data and AI Technology (DAT) Engineering team at BMO is seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our dynamic group. This role involves leading the end-to-end development of data and AI products that support the bank's digital-first strategy, regulatory compliance, and risk management objectives. As a key member of the team, you will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, data scientists, and other technical teams to design, develop, and implement scalable data solutions. Your expertise will help translate complex business requirements into robust data architectures, ensuring the delivery of actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong technical leadership, problem-solving skills, and a passion for innovation.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates should possess a minimum of 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in data engineering or related fields, complemented by formal IT education and certifications. Proficiency in ETL/ELT development, data warehousing concepts, and hands-on experience with SQL, NoSQL, Python, Spark, and Scala are essential. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, along with experience using services like SSIS, Glue, Hadoop, and Netezza, is highly desirable. Candidates should have a strong understanding of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured datasets in both batch and streaming contexts. Knowledge of AI principles, including GenAI, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and AI-powered SDLC tools, is advantageous. Additionally, experience working within Agile frameworks and utilizing project management tools like JIRA will be beneficial. A demonstrated ability to mentor junior team members and contribute to process improvements is also preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead the planning, design, development, testing, implementation, documentation, and ongoing support of data and AI products to meet business needs.
Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate complex functional and non-functional requirements into scalable data solutions.
Provide guidance on technical design standards and ensure alignment with organizational roadmaps and best practices.
Offer technical mentorship and guidance to junior and intermediate developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
Identify, track, and perform regression testing on defects to ensure high-quality deliverables.
Lead initiatives for process improvements aimed at enhancing delivery, deployment, and operational efficiency.
Accelerate development cycles by creating reusable frameworks, automation scripts, and standardized code components.
Contribute to the development of a strong technical community through mentoring, knowledge sharing sessions, and best practice documentation.

Benefits

BMO offers a comprehensive total compensation package that includes competitive salary ranges from $70,000 to $150,000, depending on experience and qualifications. The role is salaried, with additional performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, and other rewards. Employees benefit from a robust suite of health insurance options, retirement savings plans, tuition reimbursement, and accident and life insurance coverage. BMO is dedicated to supporting work-life balance and professional growth by providing ongoing training, coaching, and networking opportunities. The organization also promotes a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture where diversity is valued and every employee’s voice is heard.
