Salary range: $70,000–$150,000 per year

About The Company

BMO Financial Group is driven by a shared purpose: Boldly Grow the Good in business and life. We work to create lasting, positive change for our customers, communities, and people. By collaborating, innovating, and pushing boundaries, our teams help transform lives and businesses and support economic growth around the world.

Data and AI Technology (DAT) Engineering enables BMO’s digital-first strategy and supports its risk, regulatory, and compliance needs. The team develops data and AI products that deliver timely, actionable insights and help business partners make informed, data-driven decisions. Working across the bank, DAT Engineering contributes to hundreds of initiatives each year. It is a diverse organization where technology professionals take on complex challenges, apply their skills, and continue learning.

About The Role

As a Senior Data and AI Engineer, you will lead the delivery and support of data and AI products that address business needs and contribute to measurable outcomes. You will work closely with stakeholders and engineering colleagues to translate functional and non-functional requirements into reliable technical solutions. You will also guide technical design, support delivery improvements, and help strengthen the capabilities of the broader development community.

This is a salaried position with a listed annual salary range of $70,000 to $150,000. Actual compensation may vary according to location, experience, skills, education, and qualifications.

Qualifications

You bring five to seven years of relevant experience, supported by an IT education and/or industry certifications. You have hands-on experience developing and testing ETL/ELT solutions and applying data warehousing concepts. You are comfortable working with SQL, NoSQL, Python, Spark, and Scala, and have experience with tools and platforms such as SSIS, AWS Glue, cloud storage and computing services, Hadoop, and Netezza.

You have worked with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data in both batch and streaming environments. Your background includes data analysis, mapping, and profiling, as well as Agile delivery practices and tools such as JIRA. You understand AI concepts and have exposure to generative AI, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and AI-powered tools used in the software development lifecycle.

Experience in a large enterprise, work within a highly regulated industry, and the ability to interact effectively with senior leaders are considered assets.

Responsibilities

Lead the planning, design, development, testing, implementation, documentation, and ongoing support of data and AI products. Partner with business stakeholders to understand requirements and turn them into practical, fit-for-purpose solutions. Provide direction on technical designs, ensuring alignment with engineering standards, architectural guidance, and roadmaps.

Offer technical guidance to junior and intermediate developers, and contribute to a collaborative engineering culture through mentoring, knowledge sharing, and communities of practice. Identify defects, track them through resolution, and perform regression testing to help maintain product quality. Lead process improvement initiatives that strengthen delivery and deployment capabilities. Build frameworks, automation scripts, and reusable code to accelerate development and promote consistency.

Benefits

BMO’s total compensation package may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, and other rewards, depending on the position and pay type. Benefits include health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans. Employees are valued, respected, and supported through training, coaching, manager guidance, and opportunities to build networks and broaden their skills.

Equal Opportunity

BMO Financial Group is committed to an inclusive, equitable, and accessible workplace. We welcome the strength that comes from different experiences and perspectives. Accommodations are available upon request for candidates participating in any part of the selection process. Please contact your recruiter to request an accommodation.
