About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Scientist to join our Western Excellence Center AI and Transformation Delivery team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the development and deployment of advanced analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence solutions that drive strategic initiatives across the bank. As a key contributor, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate complex business needs into innovative data-driven solutions, enhancing client experiences, optimizing risk management, and improving operational efficiency. The position is based in Edmonton and offers a hybrid work environment, providing flexibility to balance professional and personal commitments.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in computer science, engineering, data science, statistics, or a related field, complemented by three to five years of experience in delivering production analytics or machine learning solutions. Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and familiarity with languages such as Rust, JavaScript, C, C++, SAS, or R are essential. Experience with data wrangling, preprocessing, visualization, and extract-transform-load (ETL) processes using platforms like SAS Viya or similar tools is required. Knowledge of model management, CI/CD pipelines, source control, and modern development environments is also necessary. Additionally, practical experience with containers, orchestration, cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, and deployment practices will be highly valued.
Responsibilities
- Frame high-impact analytics and AI projects by working closely with business partners to understand needs and translate them into effective data science solutions.
- Design, develop, validate, and deploy machine learning models, including large language models and retrieval-augmented generation techniques.
- Perform exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and model experimentation, communicating insights and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.
- Implement and oversee model lifecycle practices, including continuous integration and delivery, monitoring, issue resolution, and performance tracking.
- Establish and promote best practices, standards, reusable patterns, and comprehensive documentation for models, data lineage, and AI processes.
- Support project delivery activities such as planning, testing, troubleshooting, demonstrations, training, and knowledge transfer to facilitate team adoption of new tools and methods.
