About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Manager with a strong background in mining to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams in delivering complex capital projects within the mining and mineral processing industries. This role involves managing projects throughout their entire lifecycle - from initial studies and proposal development to detailed engineering, construction support, and commissioning. The successful candidate will work closely with clients to define strategic execution plans, identify and mitigate technical and commercial risks, and ensure project objectives are achieved on time, within scope, and within budget.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing mining and heavy industrial projects, including mineral processing facilities and related infrastructure. Familiarity with NI 43-101 technical studies and the ability to act as a Qualified Person (QP) or collaborate with QPs for technical reporting are essential. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering disciplines such as Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, or Mining Engineering, with a minimum of 15 years of experience in delivering large-scale capital projects in the mining or mineral processing sectors. Proven experience managing projects with a total installed cost (TIC) of up to $200 million is required. Candidates should have supported or led technical study phases including Preliminary Economic Assessments (PEA), Prefeasibility Studies (PFS), and Feasibility Studies (FS). Strong skills in project controls, scheduling (using MS Project or similar tools), budgeting, and cost forecasting are essential.
Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate success in managing project risks, change management processes, and maintaining excellent client relationships. Experience contributing to or overseeing NI 43-101 technical reports or studies is highly valued. Eligible candidates should be qualified to act as a QP under NI 43-101 or have significant experience working closely with qualified professionals. Willingness and ability to travel to project sites and client locations as necessary are also important.
Responsibilities
Leadership
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams across various engineering disciplines and geographic locations, fostering collaboration and high performance.
- Establish comprehensive project plans, including objectives, risk management frameworks, schedules, and key deliverables.
- Ensure projects are executed safely, on schedule, and within budget constraints, maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- Provide mentorship and leadership to project engineers and technical staff, promoting professional development and technical excellence.
Technical Expertise
- Oversee engineering delivery for capital mining and mineral processing projects, including greenfield and brownfield developments.
- Support and manage engineering scopes for technical studies such as PEA, PFS, FS, FEED, and detailed engineering phases.
- Develop scope definitions, cost estimates, and execution strategies during project proposals and studies.
- Ensure engineering outputs meet quality standards and comply with Sacré-Davey’s Quality Management System.
- Coordinate various engineering disciplines to deliver integrated, technically sound project solutions.
Stakeholder Communication
- Act as the primary liaison for clients, fostering strong relationships through clear and proactive communication.
- Present project progress, strategies, and technical updates to clients and stakeholders effectively.
- Facilitate alignment and collaboration among engineering teams, project sponsors, and external partners.
- Manage scope changes and client expectations professionally, ensuring transparency and mutual understanding.
Compliance and Standards
- Ensure all projects adhere to applicable engineering codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee project reviews and ensure lessons learned are documented and incorporated into future projects.
- Provide technical oversight for NI 43-101 compliant studies and documentation, supporting technical review processes for sign-off by Qualified Persons.
Strategic Contributions
- Contribute to business development efforts through proposal preparation, scope definition, and effort estimation.
- Identify opportunities to enhance project execution methodologies and improve client outcomes.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to refine Sacré-Davey’s project management practices.
- Support the development of long-term relationships within the mining sector to foster repeat business and strategic partnerships.
