About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager with a strong background in mining to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams in delivering capital mining and mineral processing projects. This leadership role involves overseeing projects throughout their entire lifecycle - from initial studies and proposal development to detailed engineering, construction support, and commissioning. The successful candidate will work closely with clients to define project strategies, manage technical and commercial risks, and ensure the successful and timely delivery of projects within scope and budget.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing mining and heavy industrial projects, including mineral processing facilities and related infrastructure. Knowledge of contributing to or managing engineering inputs into NI 43-101 technical studies and the ability to act as a Qualified Person (QP) or collaborate with one is essential. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence project outcomes, foster client relationships, and support the growth of Sacré-Davey’s project portfolio.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering disciplines such as Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, or Mining Engineering. They should have at least 15 years of experience delivering large-scale capital projects within the mining or mineral processing sectors. Proven expertise in managing projects with a total installed cost (TIC) up to $200 million is required. Candidates should have supported or managed various project phases, including pre-feasibility (PEA), prefeasibility (PFS), and feasibility studies (FS).
Strong skills in project controls, scheduling (preferably with MS Project), budgeting, and cost forecasting are essential. Demonstrated success in managing project risks, change management, and maintaining positive client relationships is critical. Experience with technical reporting aligned with NI 43-101 standards and the ability to act as or work closely with a Qualified Person are highly valued. Flexibility to travel to project sites and client locations as needed is also required.
Responsibilities
Leadership
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams across various engineering disciplines and geographic locations.
- Develop and implement project plans, objectives, risk management frameworks, schedules, and deliverables.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget constraints.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to project engineers and staff, fostering a collaborative team environment.
Technical Expertise
- Oversee engineering delivery for mining and mineral processing projects, including greenfield and brownfield developments.
- Support and manage engineering scopes for technical studies such as PEA, PFS, FS, as well as FEED and detailed engineering phases.
- Develop scope definitions, cost estimates, and project execution strategies during proposal and study phases.
- Ensure engineering outputs meet quality standards and comply with Sacré-Davey’s Quality Management System.
- Coordinate across disciplines to achieve integrated and technically sound project execution.
Stakeholder Communication
- Serve as the primary contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring clear, consistent communication.
- Present project progress, strategies, and technical updates effectively to clients and stakeholders.
- Facilitate alignment among engineering teams, project sponsors, and external partners.
- Manage scope changes and client expectations professionally and transparently.
Compliance and Standards
- Ensure all projects adhere to applicable engineering codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct project phase reviews, capturing lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Provide technical oversight for NI 43-101 compliant studies and documentation, supporting technical sign-offs as a Qualified Person or in collaboration with one.
Strategic Contributions
- Assist in business development efforts through proposal preparation, scope definition, and effort estimation.
- Identify opportunities to improve project delivery methodologies and client satisfaction.
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of Sacré-Davey’s project management practices.
- Foster long-term relationships within the mining sector to support future projects and collaborations.
