Original job description

About The Company

For over 30 years, Capital One Canada has been dedicated to transforming the banking experience through innovation and technology. Our mission is to change banking for good by challenging traditional stereotypes and integrating advanced technologies such as machine learning, conversational AI, and design thinking into our core operations. We strive to build a bank that is as much a technology company as it is a financial institution, where your contributions directly impact millions of Canadians. Our culture is driven by fearless curiosity, bold innovation, and a collective of authentic, talented individuals working together to redefine what is possible in financial services. Technology is not just a part of our strategy; it is at the heart of everything we do, enabling us to deliver innovative solutions and create the future of banking.

About The Role

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer at Capital One Canada, you will play a pivotal role in orchestrating the development of innovative technology solutions aligned with our strategic objectives. Your primary focus will be designing scalable, secure, and high-performance systems that meet the evolving needs of our business and customers. You will evaluate emerging technologies, develop robust software solutions, and collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams to promote best practices in architecture and design. Working closely with business partners, you will help refine problem statements and identify the capabilities necessary to deliver impactful solutions. Your contributions will shape the future of our technology landscape, ensuring that all solutions adhere to our architectural and security standards while fostering innovation and agility.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 8 years of experience in Software Engineering and Systems Architecture or Technology Solution design, with at least 2 years of hands-on experience creating solutions architectures within a public cloud environment such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. A bachelor's, master's, or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a strong track record of designing, architecting, and delivering scalable, decoupled systems in highly regulated environments, with at least 10 years of overall software engineering experience. Experience working with internal and external business clients for over 3 years, along with AWS certifications such as Cloud Practitioner or Solution Architect-Associate, will be considered advantageous. Excellent communication skills, the ability to influence stakeholders, and experience mentoring engineering teams are also essential.

Responsibilities

Design and implement innovative solutions that support and advance Capital One Canada's business objectives and strategic initiatives.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive catalog of technical and business capabilities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Collaborate with stakeholders across all levels of the organization to promote technology strategies that deliver value and foster innovation.
Lead and mentor engineering teams, encouraging adoption of best practices, continuous improvement, and professional development.
Contribute to the architectural direction by making informed design choices, evaluating new technologies, and ensuring solutions meet security and scalability standards.
Engage with business partners to refine problem statements, identify requirements, and develop effective technical solutions.
Maintain awareness of industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of technological advancements.

Benefits

At Capital One Canada, we empower our employees to take ownership of their careers within a supportive, high-performance culture that emphasizes work-life balance and personal growth. We provide tools, mentorship, and opportunities to upskill, pivot into new areas, or deepen your expertise. Our hybrid work model offers flexibility, with three days in the office per week, fostering collaboration while respecting personal commitments. Our comprehensive benefits package is designed to support your overall well-being and that of your loved ones, including full coverage for spouses, domestic partners, and dependents, a one-time Work From Home allowance, mental health coverage up to $3,000, and annual tuition subsidies up to $5,000. We are committed to helping you thrive both professionally and personally, offering a range of programs and resources to support your development and health.

Equal Opportunity

Capital One Canada is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic. We are dedicated to providing reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities throughout the recruitment process. If you require accommodation during the application or interview process, please contact Capital One Recruiting at the provided contact details. We believe that diversity enriches our culture and drives innovation, and we are committed to creating an environment where everyone can succeed and thrive.
