Original job description

About The Company

McKesson is an impact-driven, Fortune 10 company that touches virtually every aspect of healthcare. We are known for delivering insights, products, and services that make quality care more accessible and affordable. Here, we focus on the health, happiness, and well-being of you and those we serve - we care.

What you do at McKesson matters. We foster a culture where you can grow, make an impact, and are empowered to bring new ideas. Together, we thrive as we shape the future of health for patients, our communities, and our people. If you want to be part of tomorrow's health today, we want to hear from you.

About The Role

McKesson is seeking a Sr. Software Developer to design, build, and scale modern software solutions that support healthcare technology innovation. In this role, you will help deliver secure, reliable, and scalable applications across cloud-native platforms while contributing to AI-enabled engineering practices, multi-agent systems, large language model (LLM) applications, and automation across the software development lifecycle.

You will collaborate with engineering, architecture, product, security, and platform teams to develop API-first services, enhance system reliability, and modernize application delivery using Azure, Kubernetes, event-driven patterns, DevSecOps, and AI-augmented development practices.

Qualifications

7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including enterprise-scale application development.
Proven experience building applications with Java, Python, React, JavaScript/TypeScript, REST APIs, or related full-stack technologies.
Strong background in designing, developing, and optimizing database solutions using MongoDB, PostgreSQL, relational data models, document databases, query optimization, indexing, and data integration patterns.
Hands-on experience with cloud-native architecture, preferably Azure, Kubernetes, containers, microservices, or serverless patterns.
Experience with AI-assisted software development tools and practices, including code analysis, automated test generation, and developer productivity workflows such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar.
Knowledge of designing or integrating APIs, distributed systems, event-driven services, or enterprise integrations.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps or DevSecOps practices, Git-based workflows, automated testing, and release processes.
Understanding of secure coding, software quality, scalability, reliability, and maintainability practices.
Experience working in Agile delivery environments with cross-functional teams including product, architecture, security, and operations.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable full-stack applications utilizing Java, Python, React, REST APIs, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL.
Build and enhance AI-enabled applications leveraging LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) patterns, agentic workflows, and multi-agent system design.
Architect and implement cloud-native solutions on Microsoft Azure, utilizing Kubernetes, containers, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
Lead technical design discussions, define software architecture, establish engineering standards, and promote reusable development patterns.
Enhance CI/CD pipelines, implement DevSecOps practices, automate testing, and improve monitoring and platform automation.
Troubleshoot complex production and non-production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and develop long-term solutions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure software solutions are secure, compliant, reliable, and maintainable within a regulated enterprise environment.
Mentor engineering team members through code reviews, technical guidance, and sharing best practices to foster continuous learning and improvement.

Benefits

McKesson offers a competitive total rewards package, including base salary, performance-based bonuses, and long-term incentives. Our benefits program is designed to support your health, financial security, and well-being, encompassing comprehensive health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and wellness programs. We also provide opportunities for professional development, continuous learning, and career growth within a dynamic environment. The pay range for this position is $99,100 - $132,100, aligned with market standards and regulatory compliance. Additional benefits may include flexible work arrangements, employee assistance programs, and other perks to promote work-life balance.

Equal Opportunity

McKesson is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where all individuals are valued and respected. We provide equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, age, genetic information, or any other legally protected category.
