Your Next Challenge
The Detour UG project is an advanced underground exploration project based out of Detour mine project located in Northern Ontario. Reporting to the Manager, Detour Lake Underground Operations, you will be part of the Engineering Department. You will ensure that team members apply standard engineering practices for short, medium and long term planning, ground control, surveying, drilling and blasting. You will play an important part in the future mine design as the project advance as well as maintaining the cost on budget. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
- Champion a strong safety culture by implementing continuous improvements and ensuring all engineering activities are conducted in accordance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements;
- Provide strategic leadership and technical direction for mine planning, drill and blast, ground control, ventilation, and surveying functions, ensuring alignment with production objectives and operational priorities;
- Lead the development and execution of short, medium, and long-term mine plans that optimize production, resource utilization, operational efficiency, and project value;
- Manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and cost control initiatives, ensuring disciplined financial stewardship while achieving operational and project targets;
- Ensure the effective design, integration, and performance of critical underground infrastructure systems, including ventilation, water management, dewatering, compressed air, paste fill, and personnel movement systems;
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing technical team by fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development;
- Coach, develop, and support employees through performance management, succession planning, and targeted training programs that strengthen team capability and engagement;
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Geology, and Project teams to support key project milestones, future mine design decisions, and successful execution of underground development activities;
- Lead operational readiness planning and execution, ensuring systems, processes, infrastructure, and personnel are fully prepared for construction completion, commissioning, start-up, and production ramp-up;
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety performance, operational readiness, productivity, and cost effectiveness while upholding Agnico Eagle's values and commitment to responsible mining.
What You Need To Succeed
- Bachelor in Mining Engineering or equivalent;
- 10-15 years of mining related experience with 5 years of management and supervision experience;
- Primarily underground mining experience;
- Strong exposure to technical services and operations;
- Exposure to long hole transverse gold mining;
- Experience with feasibility study, mine start-up and production ramp-up;
- Leadership, interpersonal, organizational and conflict resolution skills;
- Self-motivated team player with a positive attitude. Able to develop and foster a team environment;
- Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications, especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
Your Work Schedule
- Schedule: 4/3 schedule at our Detour UG project;
- Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides transportation to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
