Your Next Challenge
Reporting to the Paste Fill Surface Supervisor , you will be part of the Surface Operations Department. The Paste Fill Operator 3 is responsible for safe, efficient and reliable operation of the paste fill plant. This team lead and mentorship role promotes cost-effective paste production and distribution while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Operate and monitor all paste backfill plant equipment and systems;
- Ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining safe operating conditions;
- Monitor process parameters including density, slump, flow rates, solids content, binder addition, and water balance;
- Coordinate paste deliveries with underground operations and mine production schedules;
- Identify and respond to process upsets, equipment malfunctions, and operational challenges;
- Maintain excellence in housekeeping practices, ensuring a safe and clean workplace;
- Ensure paste backfill consistently meets engineering and geotechnical specifications;
- Monitor quality control testing and analyze performance data;
- Verify proper binder dosing and mixing parameters;
- Investigate quality deviations and implement corrective actions;
- Work closely with technical services, engineering, and laboratory personnel to optimize product performance;
- Maintain accurate quality records and operational reports;
- Provide day-to-day guidance and technical support to plant operators 3 & 4;
- Act as a role model for safety, professionalism, and operational excellence;
- Assist supervisors with shift coordination and task prioritization;
- Promote teamwork and effective communication across departments;
- Lead by example in maintaining housekeeping and operational standards;
- Train new and existing operators on plant processes, equipment operation, and standard operating procedures;
- Conduct competency assessments and provide constructive feedback;
- Assist in updating training materials and operational procedures ensuring validity;
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge-sharing programs;
- Foster a culture of learning and operational excellence;
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture;
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, site procedures, and regulatory requirements;
- Participate in hazard assessments, incident investigations, and risk management activities;
- Conduct workplace inspections and identify opportunities for improvement;
- Ensure environmental and operational standards are consistently maintained.
What You Need To Succeed
- Minimum 6 months to 1 year of experience in paste backfill, tailings management, process plant operations, or a related mining environment;
- Minimum 6 months in a support operator capacity;
- Understanding of: Paste backfill systems and distribution networks, tailings handling and thickening processes, cement and binder systems, Process control systems (Teams, Excel, Outlook, PLC, HMI), Quality assurance and quality control procedures
- Motivated to continue training and developing operational skillsets;
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills;
- Ability to interpret process trends, production data, and laboratory results;
- Excellence in both written and oral communication skills;
- Valid safety certifications and equipment operating qualifications as required by site regulations.
