AI Software & Data Specialist

Opportunity
Ai Genetics is seeking an AI Software & Data Specialist to help design, develop, and enhance technology solutions that support our genetic-testing and reporting services.
This part-time role is suited to a candidate with a Computer Engineering background - ideally at the Master’s level - who combines strong software-development skills with practical experience using artificial intelligence tools, cloud platforms, databases, and modern deployment workflows.
You will work closely with our IT, laboratory, research, and operations teams to evaluate technical needs, develop and improve internal and customer-facing systems, implement AI-enabled workflows, and help ensure our data infrastructure is secure, reliable, and scalable.
What You’ll Do
AI Development and Integration
- Help to design, build, test, and improve AI-enabled tools, workflows, and software features that support Ai Genetics’ operational and product goals.
- Assess current generative-AI technologies and recommend practical, secure, and responsible ways to integrate them into existing business processes and platforms.
- Demonstrate hands-on experience with Claude Pro, including the ability to present a completed project, prototype, workflow, or application created using Claude.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify high-value opportunities for automation, intelligent reporting, data analysis, documentation, and internal process improvement.
- Evaluate AI outputs for quality, accuracy, privacy, usability, and alignment with organizational requirements.
Software, Web, and Platform Development
- Develop, maintain, and enhance web portals, internal applications, reporting systems, and technology tools.
- Support website updates, software upgrades, feature testing, and technical troubleshooting.
- Work with modern development practices, including source control, issue tracking, testing, deployment, and documentation.
- Use GitHub to manage code repositories, collaborate with team members, review changes, and maintain a clear development history.
- Deploy and manage applications using Railway and support efficient development-to-production workflows.
- Configure and manage Cloudflare services as needed, including performance, security, DNS, access, and web-delivery capabilities.
- Work with the IT team to analyze technical requirements and make clear, practical recommendations for system improvements.
Database and Data Infrastructure
- Design, set up, configure, and maintain databases that support business applications, data-processing workflows, and reporting needs.
- Help define appropriate data structures, relationships, access controls, backups, and data-integrity practices.
- Support secure integration between databases, web applications, cloud services, and analytical tools.
- Process and organize large datasets to extract meaningful insights and support operational reporting.
- Contribute to systems that handle sensitive information with strong attention to privacy, security, accuracy, and access management.
Genetic Data and Reporting Support
- Learn and apply concepts related to polygenic risk scoring, including the underlying mathematical principles and processes used to calculate results.
- Work with relevant industry software, including PRSice, to support genetic-data processing and reporting workflows.
- Apply statistical concepts, including probability density functions and related analytical methods, in coding and data-analysis tasks where appropriate.
- Assist in generating clear, accurate, and actionable reports from genetic and operational data.
- Collaborate with scientific and technical teams to translate complex data into practical software and reporting solutions.
Technical Operations and Documentation
- Work with the IT team to assess hardware, software, system-performance, and infrastructure requirements.
- Support testing of systems and applications; identify issues, document findings, and communicate recommendations to the appropriate team members.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, user guides, standard operating procedures, and implementation notes for software and AI solutions.
- Participate in IT and cross-functional meetings and contribute to technology planning across the organization.
- Help maintain dependable, secure, and user-friendly technology systems for internal teams and external users.
What We’re Looking For
Education
- Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
- A Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline is strongly preferred.
- Additional coursework, certifications, continuing education, or independent study in artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, cloud computing, software engineering, data science, or databases is an asset.
AI Experience
- Demonstrated focus on artificial intelligence through academic projects, professional work, research, independent development, or continuing education.
- Ability to clearly describe and demonstrate completed AI projects, including the problem addressed, the technologies used, the candidate’s individual contribution, implementation approach, and outcome.
- Experience using generative-AI tools in practical development, research, automation, analysis, documentation, or product contexts.
- Current experience with Claude Pro is required; candidates should be prepared to demonstrate a relevant project or workflow they have developed with it.
- Understanding of responsible AI practices, including output validation, privacy, data security, limitations, and appropriate human review.
Technical Qualifications
Candidates must have demonstrated proficiency in:
- GitHub: Version control, repository management, branching, pull requests, code collaboration, and documentation.
- Railway: Application deployment, environment-variable management, service configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Cloudflare: DNS, security, performance, access controls, and related web-infrastructure services.
- Claude Pro: Building or supporting a completed project, prototype, workflow, or technical solution using Claude.
- Database setup: Designing and configuring databases; establishing schemas, tables, relationships, user access, integrations, backup practices, and data-quality controls.
The following are also considered strong assets:
- JavaScript and TypeScript.
- React, Angular, or similar front-end frameworks.
- Python, R, SQL, or other data-processing and analytical languages.
- AWS, Google Cloud, Snowflake, or similar cloud and data platforms.
- APIs, system integrations, application security, and authentication workflows.
- Data visualization, reporting pipelines, and dashboard development.
- Experience with health technology, genomics, laboratory information systems, LIMS, next-generation sequencing informatics, or other regulated-data environments.
- Familiarity with genetic-data analysis, polygenic risk scoring, PRSice, or related bioinformatics tools.
