Role overview

Owns automated and manual quality engineering for the client's migration of its native iOS and Android apps to React Native. Designs and maintains the layered test strategy and enforces the 75% coverage gate in Jenkins CI. Builds Detox suites for the new React Native app and Appium suites for cross-app parity regression against the legacy native apps. Runs the 25+ device matrix on BrowserStack real devices. Works with 407 ETR's QA team on parity acceptance and defect triage.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain the layered test strategy across unit, component, contract, integration, end-to-end, visual regression, accessibility and performance layers.
• Author and maintain Detox end-to-end suites for the React Native app on iOS and Android.
• Build and maintain Appium suites (WebdriverIO or equivalent) that run the same parity scenarios against both the legacy native apps and the new React Native app.
• Run automated suites on BrowserStack App Automate real devices, and use BrowserStack App Live for manual and exploratory checks on devices not held in-house.
• Coordinate 25+ device and OS combinations (iOS 16.1+, Android 9+) across BrowserStack and the in-house device lab, and keep the matrix aligned with production usage data.
• Enforce the 75% coverage gate in Jenkins CI, and wire Detox, Appium and BrowserStack runs into the pipeline with clear pass/fail reporting.
• Run manual exploratory testing each sprint.
• Perform assistive technology validation before every release (VoiceOver on iOS, TalkBack on Android).
• Interface with 407 ETR's QA team on parity acceptance criteria and defect triage under the four-tier severity model.
• Support the four self-sufficiency exercises during hypercare.

Must-have technical experience

• 5+ years of QA engineering, including 3+ years as a mobile SDET.
• Hands-on Detox authorship on both iOS and Android.
• Hands-on Appium experience on both iOS (XCUITest driver) and Android (UiAutomator2 driver), including framework setup and maintenance.
• Experience running mobile automation on BrowserStack (App Automate and App Live), including device selection, parallel runs and debugging from session logs and video.
• Strong TypeScript for test code.
• Experience enforcing CI/CD quality gates in Jenkins or an equivalent CI system.
• Experience coordinating large device matrices across iOS and Android, using both cloud and physical devices.
• Manual accessibility validation with screen readers (VoiceOver, TalkBack) and contrast-checking tools.

Preferred technical experience

• Automated mobile accessibility testing integrated into CI (for example axe DevTools Mobile, BrowserStack App Accessibility, or platform tools such as Xcode Accessibility Inspector and Android Accessibility Scanner).
• Performance regression testing at the CI gate level (frame timing, cold start, memory), including BrowserStack App Performance or similar.
• Prior React Native testing experience specifically.
• BrowserStack Local for testing builds against internal or staging environments.

Migration and replatform experience (preferred)

• Experience testing a native-to-React Native (or similar cross-platform) replatform, including parity regression against a legacy incumbent app.
• Experience reusing one Appium scenario set across the legacy and new apps to prove functional parity.

Industry background (preferred)

• Regulated Canadian mobile QA experience.
• Bilingual (English and French) validation experience.
