Machinist

One of our clients, a major oil and gas company has tasked us with finding a Journeyman Machinist to join their team on a 6-month to 1-year contract. This position follows a Monday to Friday schedule and involves machining, fabrication, and precision manufacturing work supporting maintenance and operations activities. The successful candidate will primarily operate and program MAZAK and HAAS CNC machines while ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with quality standards.

The Journeyman Machinist will be responsible for machining new components, repairing existing equipment, and manufacturing precision parts used in oil and gas operations. This role requires the ability to interpret technical drawings, select appropriate tooling, perform machine setups, and conduct quality inspections to ensure specifications are met.

Responsibilities:

• Set up, operate, and program MAZAK and HAAS CNC machines to manufacture precision components.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Perform machine setups, tooling changes, and program adjustments as required.
• Manufacture, repair, and modify components used in industrial and oil and gas equipment.
• Conduct precision measurements and inspections using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other measuring instruments.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions to maintain production quality.
• Perform manual machining operations when required using lathes, mills, grinders, and other shop equipment.
• Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
• Ensure compliance with company safety standards, policies, and procedures.
• Support preventive maintenance activities on machining equipment.
• Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to meet project timelines and production requirements.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Requirements:

• Journeyman Machinist Certification.
• Experience operating and programming MAZAK and HAAS CNC machining centers.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications.
• Experience working with precision measuring instruments and quality inspection processes.
• Knowledge of machining metals commonly used in industrial and oil and gas environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
• Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience supporting oil and gas, manufacturing, heavy industrial, or maintenance operations.
• Experience with CNC programming and editing using Mazatrol and G-code.
• Knowledge of welding, fabrication, or mechanical repair practices.
• Experience manufacturing custom or low-volume precision components.
