Senior / Intermediate Process Engineer
Airswift is seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable Senior or Intermediate Process Engineer to work with one of our clients in Calgary, AB or Surrey, BC, on a contract-basis with the possibility of extension.
This individual will play a critical role in the safe and efficient design, development, and optimization of liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise to support LNG projects while ensuring compliance with local and international safety standards, industry regulations, and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design and develop LNG facilities.
- Act as a client-facing technical representative, communicating complex engineering concepts clearly and professionally.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and LNG safety protocols.
- Drive initiatives to improve operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability.
- Support the development and execution of risk management strategies to mitigate operational hazards and incidents.
- Perform technical evaluations and develop design specifications for: gas pre-treatment systems, liquefaction facilities, utilities, LNG import/export terminals, storage facilities, transportation and distribution systems
- Execute detailed process engineering calculations, including: mass and energy balances, equipment and line sizing, hydraulic modeling, relief system design, material selection, plot plan development inputs, safety system design, plant area classifications
- Develop and review engineering deliverables such as: Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment and instrument datasheets, process control narratives, shutdown key documentation
- Perform process simulations using tools such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, UniSim, ProMAX, Pipeflo, KORF, and similar software.
- Prepare conceptual designs, technical reports, proposals, and process system documentation.
- Review vendor-supplied equipment designs and calculations to ensure alignment with project specifications.
- Review and validate calculations and process deliverables prepared by other engineers.
- Participate in process safety and risk assessment studies, including: PHA / HAZOP / QRA / LOPA
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior and intermediate engineers.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to drive successful project outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Eligibility for or progress toward P.Eng. registration in Canada or PE licensure in the United States is considered an asset but is not required.
- 7-10 years of direct experience in LNG engineering, design, and/or operations.
- Strong understanding of LNG processing, handling, and safety protocols.
- Extensive knowledge of LNG industry regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Experience with LNG licensor technologies (e.g., APCI, ConocoPhillips, and other major LNG technologies).
- Proven experience across project phases, including: Pre-FEED / FEED / Detailed Engineering / Construction Support
- Demonstrated success optimizing LNG facilities and improving operational efficiency.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with process simulation, optimization, and engineering software tools.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently while following established procedures and engineering guidelines.
- Open to future relocation opportunities, project secondments, and domestic or international travel as required.
