Subsea Project Engineer – Well Intervention, ROV & Intervention Equipment Delivery (Rig Integration and Equipment Interface)
Position Overview
The Subsea Project Engineer acts as a key technical interface between the Wells team, subsea base business, ROV contractor, equipment suppliers, production operations, and project management.
This position requires a strong combination of:

Key Responsibilities
Well Intervention & Project Coordination
- Support development of well intervention concepts and execution strategies.
- Coordinate interfaces across wells, drilling, completions, production, subsea, marine, ROV, and HSE disciplines.
- Provide engineering support during offshore intervention and ROV operations.
- Support well handover and startup back to operations.
ROV Scope Management
- Own and coordinate the project ROV scope.
- Act as the technical focal point between the project team and base business.
- Ensure ROV activities are integrated into the intervention sequence, vessel schedule, and project execution plan.
Equipment Delivery & Readiness
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, fabrication, assembly, inspection, testing, certification, and mobilization of subsea intervention equipment.
- Manage technical interfaces between intervention equipment, subsea trees, wellheads, ROVs, vessels, control systems, and other project equipment.
- Ensure equipment certification, maintenance, inspection, and recertification requirements are completed.
- Maintain equipment readiness status and drive actions required for offshore deployment.
Rig Integration & Offshore Execution
- Support rig integration of subsea IWOCS spread and tree handling equipment.
- Ensure equipment compatibility with the rig and planned intervention operations.
- Coordinate mobilization, rig-up, installation, function testing, commissioning, and operational acceptance.
- Participate in design reviews, FAT, SIT, integration testing, and equipment acceptance.
- Troubleshoot equipment, interface, and procedural issues during offshore operations.
- Monitor execution against approved procedures, schedules, operational objectives, and regulatory commitments.
Project Controls & Risk Management
- Maintain project cost forecasts and monitor expenditures against approved budgets.
- Maintain project risk registers and track mitigation actions.
- Support management of technical queries, deviations, non-conformances, and engineering changes.
- Manage vendors, subcontractors, and technical interfaces.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) currently registered, or eligible for immediate registration, with PEGNL.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in subsea engineering, offshore operations, well intervention, ROV operations, and subsea project engineering.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of offshore drilling rigs, vessels, ROV spreads, and subsea well intervention operations.
- Experience managing equipment throughout the full lifecycle, including design, procurement, fabrication, testing, mobilization, and offshore deployment.
- Proven experience with project cost, schedule, risk, and change management, as well as vendor/subcontractor management and technical interface coordination.

Working Conditions
- Based at the Suncor Head Office in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Primarily office-based, with periodic travel to sites and contractor offices as required.
- Potential offshore travel to support project needs.
- Standard schedule: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday).
- Extended hours may be required based on business needs.
