Project Scope: Multiple Turnaround Events
About the Opportunity
Our client is supporting a portfolio of seven planned turnaround events across multiple facilities in Alberta, with additional turnaround work anticipated. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior turnaround professional seeking long-term project exposure within a large and active turnaround program.
The Turnaround Cost Controller will play a critical role in ensuring effective cost management throughout the turnaround lifecycle, supporting planning, execution readiness, and event delivery across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all turnaround cost control activities from planning through execution and closeout.
- Develop and maintain turnaround cost tracking systems, forecasts, and reporting processes.
- Monitor turnaround expenditures against approved budgets and identify cost variances and associated risks.
- Prepare regular cost performance reports for turnaround leadership and key stakeholders.
- Support cost forecasting, accruals, cash flow projections, and final cost reconciliation activities.
- Manage cost-related change management processes, including tracking scope changes and assessing financial impacts.
- Partner closely with turnaround planners, schedulers, execution teams, contractors, and site stakeholders to ensure accurate cost visibility and reporting.
- Support turnaround readiness reviews and provide financial insights to support decision-making.
- Ensure data integrity and effective use of cost management tools and systems.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to turnaround cost performance and reporting.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in industrial turnaround, shutdown, maintenance, or major project environments.
- Proven experience leading turnaround cost control activities on large-scale turnaround events.
- Strong background in cost tracking, forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and change management.
- Demonstrated ability to manage cost performance across complex, multi-discipline turnaround programs.
- Extensive experience working within refining, petrochemical, oil & gas, or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate financial performance to diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Required Systems Experience
- Strong working knowledge of Maximo is required.
- Experience utilizing turnaround and project controls systems for cost tracking, reporting, and performance management.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting multiple turnaround events simultaneously.
- Experience working within large operating facilities across Alberta or similar industrial environments.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced, deadline-driven turnaround settings.
