Original job description
About Airtime:
Airtime Athletics runs youth volleyball training at university facilities in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). Our mission is to bridge the gap in accessibility to high-performance training environments through our regular programming and equity initiatives. As we head into our fourth operational year, we are introducing a new role in our management structure: Operations and Finance Manager.
This role presents a meaningful opportunity for both undergraduate and early post-graduate students seeking to expand their experience within a dynamic startup environment in financial management, customer relations, organizational workflow structuring, and project management while upholding Airtime’s core values of awareness, accessibility, and respect.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inbox management: Manage our client and staff communication systems.
- Financial administration: Manage seasonal budgets, payroll, external payments, and the overall financial state of the company.
- Data analysis and reporting: Analyze operational and financial data such as utilization rates, program performance, and delivery costs. Present findings that inform scheduling and programming decisions.
- Compliance and staff records: Manage staff contracts, background screening, certification tracking, and company-wide compliance and data-access policy.
- Process documentation: Build and maintain the company’s standard operating procedures and internal records.
Role impact:
Each responsibility is managed in direct collaboration with the CEO, placing this role inside the decisions that shape Airtime’s reach, quality, and trajectory.
Scope and standards:
- Due to the dynamic nature of the organization, the role's responsibilities are subject to review and adjustment through the season as the business progresses. Any change to the role’s scope is agreed upon by management members before it happens.
- The role is AI-assisted. These tools support communication, workflow optimization, and reporting. Critically scrutinizing and refining AI output is expected and obligatory. Individuals remain accountable for the quality and accuracy of anything produced under their name.
Target demographic/competencies:
- Undergraduate or early post-graduate student
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Critically engaging with reading and interpreting operational and financial data
- Autonomous and consistent workflow
- Experience in finance, operations, or project management is an asset
- Fluency and willingness to develop skills with AI tools
- No volleyball background required
Pay, hours and location:
- Compensation: $25 per hour, plus bonus opportunities
- November through April: Part-time, 5-10 hours/week
- May through August: Full-time, 35-40 hours/week
- Opportunity to remain in the role post 2027
- Hybrid: Mostly remote, with occasional on-site presence across the GTHA
Hiring process:
- Applications close November 6. Apply through the link on this listing; the application takes roughly 15 minutes to complete.
- We commit to getting back to every applicant by November 10.
- Applicants selected for the second round will receive an email with three short written questions to answer on their own time.
- The target start is mid-to-late November.
