About Our Client:
A leading Canadian institutional organization is seeking an experienced FinOps Specialist to support the analysis, reconciliation, optimization, and reporting of technology spend across multiple cloud and technology vendors. This role offers an opportunity to work within a mature enterprise environment, helping drive financial transparency, cost optimization, and data-driven decision-making across complex technology ecosystems
About this opportunity:
We are seeking a highly analytical FinOps Specialist with strong Azure cloud cost management expertise and experience working in large enterprise environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for consolidating and analyzing cloud consumption, billing, utilization, vendor, and financial data from multiple sources to deliver actionable insights that support technology spend management and optimization initiatives.
This position is ideal for a self-driven professional who combines hands-on Azure cost management experience with strong data analysis capabilities and the ability to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
What You’ll Do:
- Analyze large volumes of cloud billing, consumption, pricing, utilization, and vendor spend data across multiple technology providers.
- Consolidate, normalize, and reconcile data from cloud vendors, financial systems, procurement platforms, contracts, and internal business systems.
- Develop repeatable methodologies for allocating technology costs to applications, business units, cost centres, and products.
- Identify cost drivers, spending trends, anomalies, optimization opportunities, and financial risks.
- Support showback/chargeback processes, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting initiatives.
- Analyze cloud and technology vendor pricing models, commitments, discounts, utilization metrics, and contractual agreements.
- Develop dashboards, visualizations, and reporting solutions using tools such as Power BI, SQL, Excel, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar platforms.
- Establish data quality controls and reconciliation processes to improve financial reporting accuracy and confidence.
- Support vendor reviews, contract renewals, and commercial discussions through data-driven analysis and recommendations.
- Translate complex cloud billing and financial data into meaningful insights for technical, financial, and executive stakeholders.
What You Bring:
- 5+ years of experience in FinOps, cloud financial management, technology cost management, vendor analytics, or related financial/data analysis roles.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure billing, consumption data, pricing structures, and Azure cost management tools.
- Demonstrated experience working within large, structured enterprise environments with established governance and operating models.
- Advanced SQL and Excel skills with proven ability to manipulate, reconcile, and analyze large datasets.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar analytics and reporting platforms.
- Strong understanding of cloud billing structures, consumption-based pricing models, reserved commitments, discounts, and cost allocation methodologies.
- Experience combining and reconciling financial, operational, and vendor data from disparate systems.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and cost optimization opportunities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and quickly contribute within a fast-paced environment.
Nice to Have
- FinOps Certified Practitioner certification or equivalent.
- Experience working in multi-cloud and multi-vendor technology environments.
- Knowledge of AWS and/or Google Cloud billing and cost management.
- Experience supporting vendor negotiations, contract renewals, or commercial analysis initiatives.
- Familiarity with the FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification (FOCUS).
- Experience with forecasting, scenario modelling, and financial planning.
- Working knowledge of Python or other scripting languages for data analysis and automation.
- Experience supporting technology financial management (TBM) or IT cost allocation frameworks.
