Original job description
Position: ITAM Risk, Process and Operational Expert
Duration: Contract
Client Location: Montreal, QC (Hybrid)
Engagement Model: Contract
Engagement Model: Professional Services Engagement – B2B (Incorporated Entities Only)
About the Engagement
Akkodis is seeking an experienced ITAM Risk, Process and Operational Expert to strengthen the organization’s IT Asset Management (ITAM) risk and control environment, operational processes, and governance framework. The consultant will assess existing practices, identify risk and control gaps, design and implement sustainable controls, establish procedures and metrics, and drive remediation through completion.
The successful candidate will bring hands-on expertise in IT asset management across hardware, software, cloud assets, and configuration data, with the ability to translate business, technology, regulatory, and operational risks into clear, measurable, and testable controls. This individual will work independently and collaborate with technology, operations, risk, compliance, audit, and governance stakeholders to improve control effectiveness, data quality, accountability, and operational consistency.
Services to be Provided
- Act as the senior ITAM risk, process, and operations subject-matter expert, providing guidance on asset inventory, lifecycle management, hardware and software asset management, cloud assets, configuration data, ownership, reconciliation, data quality, end-of-life management, and asset disposal.
- Assess ITAM risks and control gaps across the end-to-end asset lifecycle, including onboarding, classification, inventory recording, discovery, reconciliation, maintenance, transfer, retirement, and disposal.
- Translate identified risks, policy requirements, and operational obligations into clearly defined control objectives, requirements, and control instances with appropriate ownership, frequency, scope, evidence, escalation, and remediation procedures.
- Design and enhance controls to ensure they are measurable, sustainable, aligned with operational practices, and suitable for independent testing.
- Develop and maintain operating procedures, process flows, RACI models, control narratives, evidence standards, exception-handling procedures, and governance documentation.
- Conduct current-state assessments and root-cause analyses to identify process gaps, overlapping responsibilities, unclear accountability, and ineffective handoffs, recommending practical improvements.
- Partner with asset owners, technology teams, and process owners to implement controls and integrate them into business-as-usual workflows, tools, and governance routines.
- Define key risk indicators (KRIs), key control indicators (KCIs), operational metrics, thresholds, and management reporting to monitor asset data quality, control performance, exceptions, and remediation progress.
- Review the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of IT asset and configuration data, investigate discrepancies with accountable teams, and drive corrective actions.
- Challenge control owners and stakeholders constructively while balancing risk reduction, operational feasibility, implementation effort, and business priorities.
- Prepare executive-ready materials for governance forums, risk committees, auditors, regulators, and senior management.
- Support risk and control self-assessments, audits, regulatory reviews, control testing, issue management, and remediation validation by maintaining clear documentation and defensible evidence.
- Monitor relevant ITAM industry practices, standards, and technology trends and incorporate applicable insights into the control framework and operating model.
- Independently manage multiple workstreams, dependencies, and priorities, escalate risks proactively, and deliver outcomes with minimal supervision.
- Build effective stakeholder relationships and manage challenging interactions professionally, including conflicting priorities, resistance to change, and unclear ownership.
Expertise Required
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in IT asset management, technology risk, controls, IT operations, IT service management, audit, compliance, or a closely related discipline.
- Hands-on experience with IT asset management processes, including asset lifecycle management, inventory controls, asset and configuration data, data quality, reconciliation, ownership, and exception management.
- Demonstrated ability to identify technology and operational risks, assess control design, and develop control instances that address defined risks.
- Strong understanding of risk and control concepts, including control objectives, preventive and detective controls, manual and automated controls, ownership, evidence, testing, issue management, and remediation.
- Experience developing or improving policies, standards, procedures, process flows, RACI models, control documentation, and management reporting.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, structure ambiguous problems, and deliver quality outcomes with limited direction.
- Strong ownership, follow-through, attention to detail, and the ability to move from analysis to implementation.
- Experience managing stakeholders effectively, challenging constructively, negotiating practical outcomes, and resolving conflicts professionally.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ITAM and control concepts to technical, operational, risk, and executive audiences.
- Experience coordinating across multiple functions and geographies within a complex enterprise environment.
- Proficiency with standard productivity, workflow, reporting, and presentation tools.
