Position: Python/SQL Developer - Consultant
Duration: 6 month assignment (contract)
Client Location: Toronto, Ontario(Hybrid Engagement: 4 days onsite per week)
Engagement Model: Professional Services Engagement – B2B (Incorporated Entities Only)
Note: Client is seeking a hands-on Python Developer focused on coding, application development, and database queries, rather than data engineering or data modeling.
About the Engagement
Akkodis is seeking the services of an experienced Python/SQL Developer Consultant to support a large-scale application and data platform migration initiative within a leading Canadian financial services organization. The engagement focuses on transitioning existing risk applications, reporting assets, and data dependencies from Oracle-based environments to Snowflake and Azure Cloud platforms. The successful consultant will work closely with business stakeholders and technology teams to repoint applications, convert database logic, support reporting migrations, and ensure continuity of critical business processes.
Services to be Provided
- Repoint existing applications, processes, and reporting assets from Oracle and traditional SQL databases to Snowflake.
- Analyze, maintain, and enhance Python and C# applications that depend on Oracle databases, SQL queries, and stored procedures.
- Convert, rewrite, and optimize Oracle SQL and stored procedure logic to support Snowflake-based solutions.
- Collaborate with technology teams to understand Snowflake data structures, availability schedules, and data quality requirements.
- Support migration of Power BI reports and dashboards from Oracle-based data sources to Snowflake.
- Perform testing, reconciliation, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of migrated applications and reporting solutions.
- Document migration approaches, technical changes, test results, operational procedures, and known issues.
- Communicate project status, risks, dependencies, and blockers to stakeholders and project teams.
- Contribute to best practices related to application migration, SQL conversion, dashboard transitions, testing, and production readiness.
Expertise Required
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in software development, application development, database development, or related technical consulting.
- Strong hands-on development experience with Python and SQL.
- Experience developing and maintaining C# applications.
- Strong experience working with Oracle databases, including Oracle SQL, stored procedures, and database-driven applications.
- Experience with Snowflake, including SQL development, connectivity, query optimization, and database migration activities.
- Experience supporting Power BI dashboard development, migrations, and data source repointing.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders across multiple business functions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Julia programming language.
- Financial services industry experience.
- Capital markets, investment risk, or risk management domain knowledge.
- Experience supporting Azure Cloud-based environments and migration initiatives.
- Exposure to large-scale enterprise application modernization projects.
