About this opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist - AI/ML to join a high-performing Data Science team. Reporting to the Director, Data Science, this role will support Canadian business units by accelerating the adoption and application of advanced analytics, machine learning, and Generative AI solutions.
The successful candidate will leverage expertise in data science, machine learning, and GenAI technologies to design, develop, and deploy innovative solutions that create measurable business value. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI initiatives, including AI agents, chatbots, large language models (LLMs), and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions.
What You’ll Do:
Data Science & Machine Learning
- Translate business objectives into analytical and machine learning solutions.
- Identify and implement appropriate statistical methods, machine learning algorithms, and GenAI architectures.
- Develop and deploy machine learning and data science products in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Apply descriptive, predictive, and machine learning techniques from concept through production implementation.
- Perform feature engineering, model training, validation, testing, and performance optimization.
- Develop prompt engineering strategies for large language models and AI applications.
GenAI & Agentic AI Development
- Design, build, and deploy GenAI applications including AI assistants, chatbots, and autonomous agents.
- Research, evaluate, and pilot emerging GenAI technologies and frameworks.
- Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions for enterprise use cases.
- Develop AI agents using modern frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, or similar technologies.
- Build intelligent information retrieval systems utilizing vector databases and embedding models.
- Enhance AI systems with reasoning capabilities, tool usage, and workflow automation.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Break down complex initiatives into actionable work plans and development milestones.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, solution designs, data models, and integration specifications.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and communicate technical recommendations.
- Present analytical findings and business insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Mentor and support junior data scientists and data engineers.
- Promote innovation, continuous improvement, and best practices across the analytics community.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience designing and implementing data science and machine learning solutions.
- Advanced proficiency in Python for data science, machine learning, and Generative AI development.
- Strong experience writing complex SQL and PySpark queries.
- Proven experience working with both structured and unstructured datasets.
- Strong knowledge of supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques.
- Experience with APIs, microservices architecture, and cloud-native applications.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, GenAI frameworks, and AI application development.
- Strong understanding of prompt engineering, RAG architectures, fine-tuning methodologies, vector databases, and embedding models.
- Experience developing conversational AI and chatbot solutions.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Experience mentoring technical team members and contributing to knowledge sharing initiatives.
Nice to Have
- Experience with AWS cloud services, including SageMaker, Lambda, Bedrock, and related AI/ML services.
- Experience with data warehousing, ETL pipelines, and big data platforms.
- Hands-on experience with AWS Glue, Glue Catalog, Glue Data Quality, and AWS Step Functions.
- Experience deploying machine learning models in production environments.
- Familiarity with MLOps practices and model monitoring frameworks.
