About this opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer / MTS to join a high-performing Robotics & Space Operations team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, implementation, maintenance, and testing of safety-critical, real-time flight software systems supporting advanced space and robotics technologies.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced embedded software professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, leading subsystem development efforts, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to the evolution of engineering standards and best practices. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop reliable, efficient, and scalable software solutions for mission-critical applications.
What You’ll Do:
Software Development & Technical Leadership
- Lead the design and architecture of safety-critical, real-time software solutions.
- Design software that is modular, maintainable, extensible, testable, and efficient.
- Lead and participate in software implementation, integration, verification, and validation activities.
- Develop and maintain embedded flight software using modern C++ practices.
- Ensure all designs, technical decisions, and implementations are thoroughly documented and communicated.
Code Quality & Engineering Excellence
- Conduct peer reviews and provide constructive feedback to engineering team members.
- Contribute to software development standards, coding guidelines, tools, and engineering processes.
- Support and drive automated testing initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
- Participate in estimation, planning, and technical risk assessment activities.
Mentorship & Collaboration
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, and coaching.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, hardware, integration, and test engineering groups.
- Work closely with senior engineers and leadership to establish and evolve engineering best practices.
- Support other technical initiatives and projects as assigned.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience developing embedded software applications.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience working with VxWorks (Wind River).
- Strong expertise in C++ software development.
- Proven experience designing and implementing safety-critical, real-time software systems.
- Experience working with System-on-Chip (SoC) architectures.
- Experience developing and maintaining automated testing frameworks.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Self-motivated with a positive, collaborative approach to teamwork.
Nice to Have
- Experience with communication protocols such as SPI, EtherCAT, and CANOpen.
- Exposure to Test-Driven Development (TDD), ATDD, and BDD methodologies.
- Experience with Continuous Integration (CI/CD) and build automation tools.
- Robotics, mechatronics, motion control, or actuator/joint control experience.
- Familiarity with ARM and/or RISC-V processors and development environments.
- Flight software, aerospace software, or avionics development experience.
- Docker and containerized development experience.
- Experience in highly regulated or safety-critical environments.
- Exposure to model-based design and verification techniques.
