About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. Role Overview
The Mine Hoist Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and safety of all shaft equipment, paste plant, loading pocket, yard and any other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will work closely with the operations and maintenance teams to ensure that hoisting systems are running efficiently, safely, and within all regulatory guidelines. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership abilities, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervision:
- Oversee the daily operation of mine shaft, loading pocket, hoist operators, paste system, yard and any other areas identified.
- Monitor hoisting activities and equipment performance to identify and resolve potential issues before they cause safety concerns or delays.
- Ensure that hoisting operations meet adhere to safety standards, procedures, and regulations while meeting production targets.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Coordinate and supervise regular maintenance, inspections, and repairs of shaft equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve shaft related mechanical, electrical, or operational issues.
- Work closely with the maintenance team to plan, schedule, and execute preventive maintenance.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Implement and enforce safety protocols, procedures, and training programs to ensure all team members adhere to regulations and best practices.
- Conduct safety inspections and audits of shaft systems and the surrounding work areas.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Ontario mining safety regulations and ensure compliance with all local and federal laws.
- Leadership & Training:
- Oversee daily operation of shaft, hoist operators, loading pocket, paste plant and any other duties as assigned.
- Foster a culture of teamwork and open communication among hoist operations staff.
- Provide performance feedback and ensure that operators are properly trained and qualified.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Maintain detailed records of shaft operations, maintenance activities, safety inspections, and any incidents or near-misses.
- Prepare and submit regular reports to the mine manager or operations supervisor regarding shaft performance and safety compliance.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with other departments (i.e., geology, engineering, maintenance) to ensure hoist systems support overall mining operations and production goals.
- Coordinate with contractors or external service providers for specialized maintenance or repairs as required.
What You Bring to the Table
- Education & Certifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent (required); post-secondary in mine technician or mine engineering, or related fields, is an asset.
- Certification in confined space entry, WHMIS, and other relevant safety training would be an asset.
- Current first aid certificate
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mine hoist operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong understanding of mine hoist systems, including mechanical, electrical, and safety components.
- Experience with hoist maintenance and troubleshooting in an underground mining environment.
- Skills:
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- In-depth knowledge of mining safety regulations, equipment maintenance, and operational efficiency.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, underground mining environment.

Working Conditions:
- Role is a 7-on / 7-off rotation, 12 hour shifts rotating days and nights
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in an underground mine environment, including exposure to confined spaces, noise, and other mining conditions.
- Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, work in difficult conditions, and participate in emergency response procedures if necessary.

Salary Range $98,600 -$147,900 CAD
The expected salary range for this role is intended to support transparency and informed decision making. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience and internal equity.
